Good morning everyone :wavey: :D

Today's question is -

Did you have a treasured childhood possession ? Like a stuffed toy or blanket ?
If so, what was it and did it have a name ?

I didn't have a special toy but I did have a blanket. It was a smallish knitted blanket of different colors that I believe my nan knitted for me when I was born. I didn't take it everywhere with me but it stayed on my bed and I could not go to sleep without my blanket. :D

Oh and i called it "blankie" - original huh ? :lol3:

What was treasured at a given time tended to vary, but I still have my very first Teddy Bear, named "Teddy", of course, carefully stored away. He's completely bald and has lots of "scars" from having his ears, etc., sewn back on.

Good morning, GemsGem!

When I was born, my grandmother gave me a little white bunny. I had that bunny for quite a while and it went with me when I married Rick and we moved into our first home. We got hit by Agnes in 1972 and lost everything (including my white bunny). I was heartbroken. It's not the material stuff that we lost that made me cry. It was seeing my white bunny brown with mud from the river and the canal. Our school yearbooks, all of our baby son's things....he wasn't even a year old yet and there we were, starting over again. When we got back into the trailer, the water line reached my nose. so we knew we wouldn't be able to save much. We saved some dishes and things like that, things that could be washed in Lysol. Our washer wasn't even a month old and we had saved for months to buy that thing (no credit cards back then....at least we didn't have any).

Sorry, I digressed. Anyway, my favorite stuffed toy was my little white stuffed bunny. He had no name. When I made the bed in the morning, I always tucked him by my pillow.

My aunt gave me a little bunny blanket that zipped into a tiny sleeping bag and I slept with it for years and years (on especially cold nights, I'd zip myself into it even though it could only cover my legs, hahaha), and for many more years it just sat at the end of my bed. It's still in great condition, but I left it at home when I moved out. I'm finding a bunch of old pictures (because I knew I had an old picture of the next toy) and I actually found one with the blanket and some stuffies that were on my bed in 2003:

I also received a little white stuffed dog with floppy brown ears wearing a blue and white bow tie. His name was Doggy. It was one of those toys with a baby rattle inside. He's also still at home. Old webcam picture (also 2003) - I love his little coconut nose!

And my super sad story, I had a suuuuuper soft beany snail (can't remember a name), but he got sold at a garage sale when I was 5 or 6. I criiiiiiiiieeeeed.

A happy story though, I had a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles towel in junior kindergarten. I remember wearing it inside out when we went swimming on class trips because all the other girls were showing off their Barbie towels to each other, and when they asked to see mine and I flashed TMNT, they all just went "... oh..." But now it's my pride and joy. It's not even big enough to wrap my hair in anymore, but it's my one and only hair towel. It's a little faded, and the year reads 1989 (thinking my brothers may have gotten it for me when I was born in that case) but I will never leave that behind and I won't even let people dry their hands on it.

My little stuffed puppy. I got it at age 11 - I was in the hospital recovering from my fourth surgery, given to me by a family friend. To this day I have quite the emotional attachment to it. Still have it in my room, it can't go away! Funny enough, I never gave it a name.

There is also all the philosophy books my grandpapa used to own and gave to me (He was a philosophy professor). He gave me books from young childhood to teenagehood, which I always happily accepted, until he passed away. From Moore and Aquinas to Hume and Schmitt. They are also all in my room.

I have a couple of other treasured items, like a doll my grandmother bought me after my second surgery at age 6, a rocking horse, and a stuffed black kitty with a red bow. They are currently safely stored away. Nothing is allowed to happen to them either

My blanket was my constant companion when I was a kid. Boy did that thing soak up a lot of tears during my crappy childhood. I still have it in a box in the bedroom.
I'm glad you still have yours.  M y mom took mine.  The wench!

I had a lot (about 15?) of My Little Ponies from the 80s. My niece "stole" them when she was about 4 or 5. She just simply bagged them up and went home with them. She's 8 now.

I saw them recently at her house and nearly cried-- my poor ponies. All chewed up from the dog, hair cut, markers drawn on them- the ones with gem eyes, the gems pulled off. Only two were still in good shape, but I couldn't take them back from her. How can I?

I bought some "new" vintage ones online to replace the destroyed ones. They're not the same though.

I had a baby blanket that I liked. My mom kept it and Aimee used it and the new baby will too since it's gender neutral.

Where my cats are
I had my teddy bear Louie.  He went everywhere with me when I was a toddler.  After that he spent some years in my Grandparent's attic.  One year after my summer vacation there I decided to bring a bunch of things home (we'd moved to another state and had an actual house).  At the last minute I decided to leave him there and bring other things.  That was the last anyone saw of Louie.
I try not to think about it....

I still have my glo-worm.  The little figurine size one; not the stuffed one you had to have an adult squeeze to get to light up.  That little thing still bring a smile to my face whenever I see it.  It's actually in a bag I of things I put to take if we ever have to evacuate.  I made the bag up when we had a hurricane getting ready to blow through and I just never unpacked those things.  My kids would try to swipe him for sure if they saw him anyway.

I actually still have a good number of things.  My kids play with some now and others they'll get as they get older.  Mostly my daughter although I had legos and things like that too.

I also have a wooden doll house my Grandpa built for me.  He did one for all the granddaughters.  Gram sewed the curtains and bedding.  Grandpa hand made furniture and ran electric lights.  It's on a lazy susan on a stand he also built.  I love it.  It's at my mother's for safe keeping and my kids are NOT allowed to play with it.  At least not till they are big enough to be gentle.   I wish I had a place to keep it here.  Even as a teenager I used to decorate it for Christmas and everything.

I had a stuffed koala bear that I took everywhere.  To this day, I want a real one - because I think they are as sweet and cuddly as my childhood one.  (I know they aren't! But a gal can hope...)

My daughter has a pink stuffed cat that she calls "Pink Kitty."  Her dad bought it for her when she was three, and she drags it everywhere.  It is the most horrible looking stuffed animal from the wear and tear, but she won't give it up.  Yesterday, our Boxer puppy went into her room and grabbed it, carrying it around the house.  I thought my daughter was going to strangle her!

A koala bear.  Not at all soft.. in fact made from leather and real fur (I would hate to have it now!)  But I loved that guy when I was six.
