Sunday Tony stayed under the bed, wouldn't eat, drink water, interact with us. I left a msg at the vet Sunday night and called first thing Monday and rushed him in. When Tony doesn't eat, something is wrong! He was very dehydrated, had a slight temperature. Dr. Newman gave him fluids, an antibiotic shot, and took his blood. I was so afraid of kidney disease as Tony is 13, and we've lost 2 cats to kidney failure in the past. Dr called me that night. He had an infection in his system. Blood test showed kidney function was in the normal range - high end of normal - but still normal. We started him on antibiotics at home twice a day and by Tues morning he started eating and drinking. Today he is back to his normal "Tony" - eating, drinking, interacting with us, rolling over for his belly-rubs. I was so frightened we were going to lose him. Didn't sleep all Sunday night, and even cancelled my dr appointment on Tues 'just in case" of an emergency. Dr. suggested we do another followup blood test to test kidneys in 10 days, which we will do, as a precaution. Tony is such a sweet, loving, gentle cat with the best disposition in the world. I just couldn't bear the thought of losing him and it's something we were both afraid of . Anyway, Tony is doing well and we're thrilled.

I'm wondering if he just had a tummy thing going on. Boo gets like that from time to time and within a day or two, he's back to normal. Whatever it is, I'm glad he's eating again.

yes Pam, it probably was a tummy problem - or infection as the Dr. said. Anyway, we have our normal Tony back and this morning he was banging on the bedroom door for someone to come out and feed him - at 5:30 in the morning! He is such a special little guy and I want him around as long as possible. We were so afraid of kidney problems. When I see the dr next week I'm going to ask if he should be on the special kidney food.

Thanks for your concern Pam.

I'm so glad to hear it worked out okay and your Tony is back to normal.
With everything else you've been going through, you sure don't need any more worries!

Sounds like Tony is in excellent hands!  Good for you, reacting as quickly as you did!

Today the vet called us to see how Tony is doing. Thought that was really nice! When the dr asked Paul "how is Tony feeling?" - I told Paul he should have said - "hold on I'll put Tony on the phone".

Nice to see a dr who follows up.

That is really touching! I use a fairly large very clinic and I had one of their vets call to check on Mooch before; but not all of them do that. That vet left the practice; I miss her!
