Farewell my Mindy

Mindy was my best friend of 11 years. She was battling cancer and I lost her on July 3. Her pain was unmanageable and she was getting sicker, so I had to make the dreaded decision to let her go.
I got Mindy from an old roommate who could not care for her anymore. She told me Mindy didn't like anyone, but that first night she hopped right into bed with me. The rest was history. Mindy was my rock and constant companion. We lost her buddy Rusty in 2007 and made it through together. Mindy trusted me despite her rough past, and my patience was rewarded with her unending love. We travelled together and were rarely apart. She bonded with my late grandmother and gave her a reason to live. She asked so little from us and gave so much in return.
I have never known a sweeter soul. Mindy was my closest confidant and loved me when I didn't love myself. Because I knew her I am a better person. I have the most wonderful memories of my little black cat that I will cherish forever. In time, I hope to adopt again in her honor and share the love she taught me to give. That is Mindy's legacy-never ending love.
I miss you dearly Mindy. I know you are now safe in my heart. You are in my future now and I know we will be together again. How fast the years go my friend. I love you kitty best friend-now and forever.

What a sweet tribute.  Mindy sounds like a wonderful soul.  It's so hard to lose someone who's been such a big part of our lives.  I'm so sorry.

Please accept my condolences for the loss you are going through, it takes a long time to heal a broken heart . It sounds like she taught you a lot about life and love, what a precious legacy she leaves. I too believe she would be honored for you to share what she taught you with another little love, you can teach another what she taught you. Thank you for sharing her story, she truly is a loving angel. Please know you are not alone in your grief and we will share your pain and try to comfort you in any way we can. Bless you for loving so much to hurt so bad, I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers. RIP beautiful Mindy!

@MissMindy   Your tribute to your cat Mindy is so beautiful.  The love just pours off the page.  I know, as you say,  you will see her again and have loads of adventures to talk about. Her legacy of "never ending love" is very powerful.  My condolences and I wish you peace.

I, like you, had to make the decision to let my baby go due to a suspected cancer. It is so hard hun, I know. My cat, like yours, didn`t like anyone. Except me! What a bond. It makes it stronger and more special doesn`t it, when a cat chooses you as their best friend. She also loved me when I didn`t love myself, which was a lot. I am so sorry for your loss. Big hugs.

I am so sorry for your loss. While I never posted in your other thread about Mindy, I followed it from beginning to end and was so sad to hear when you had to let her go.    Your story is touching. It sounds like you found each other right when you both needed it the most.

Thank you everyone for your kind words.  They really touched my heart.  It took me a while to get up the strength to respond and not dissolve into tears.  Tomorrow is 4 weeks since I lost Mindy and I still feel the enormity of her loss every day.  Mindy was a very special cat and continues to inflence and touch my life.  I don't know if I will ever meet and connect with another animal again like that.  Perhaps she was that once in a lifetime friend and soulmate that I thank God I met.  I used to tell her all the time she was one of the best things that ever happened to me.

I have adopted another homeless kitty whose owner died in Mindy's honor and in time, I will post more about her.

I am very sorry about Mindy and she will always be a part of your life.  It never ceases to amaze me just how deeply these wonderful creatures affect our lives and offer a balance and a joy that is unmatched and then how our world seems to have all the air sucked out of it when we lose them.  I am so proud of you for taking the big step of adopting another kitty.  You are indeed honouring Mindy by doing this.  Mindy has given you the strength in life that will allow you to rescue, love and cherish another kitty.  You will always have Mindy in your heart and at the same time, love your new addition.  You will always love Mindy as Mindy and your new kitty (whatever this little one's name is) as your new little one.  I look forward to reading more about your newest and would love to know his/her name.

One year today Mindy that we had to say farewell for now.  I love and miss you my best friend

I am so sorry for the pain you are feeling. I know how that special one year anniversary can bring up all the sadness of losing our special kitty. We start remembering all the pain and every single detail of when and how they left us. The one year anniversary of my Mickey is on the 8th and is birthday was the 4th. I do know and understand how you must be hurting.
Take Care and know you are not alone in your pain. We all understand!!

Those painful anniversaries arrive and bring up bittersweet memories that hopefully will get less painful and more reminiscent of the good times as the years go by. I know our precious babies would never want us to remember them with pain and sorrow but to celebrate what we shared and pass on their legacy of love to others. We miss their presence terribly, but are comforted by our memories of the love and devotion they gave us  Take care and know I will think of you and keep you in my prayers.
