I have a 5 year old male cat. I got him from cat welfare in Columbus Ohio. He is fixed and is a big cat. I feed him 1/2 can of wet food and a cup of hard in the am and the same in the pm. He is always hungry.

All he thinks about is food. He is a lazy kicked back cat. Sometimes I even give him a little more food. I just can't seem to make him happy. Can anyone help.

Thanks

So you feed 2 full cups of dry, and 1 full can of wet PER day?! I'm going to be blunt: that is definitely too much!

When I adopted my cat, she was used to a "free feeding" system at her previous home, that when we switched her to portioned/timed meals, she always seemed hungry, even though we were giving her enough.

Maybe your cat was also used to having food left out all the time, and is having a hard time adjusting to portioned/timed meals. Give it some time, and he'll eventually get used to it.

Do you know roughly how much he weighs? If he's at a normal weight, then maybe he has worms which is causing him to always be hungry. If this is the case, then he'll need a vet visit!

He is a fat cat 5lbs. He was getting fed all day long. I stopped it. So maybe he is trying to adjust. It just gets on my nerves lol. Can you tell me how much i should feed him? Thanks for the help.

He is only 5lbs, and 5 years old? That's very small for an adult cat. Did the shelter say/mention anything about his weight or medical history?

If he's eating that much, and only 5lbs, I would bring into a vet and check for worms, or anything else for that matter.

Usually the bag or can of food will say how much to feed your cat, depending on weight. For example, my cat is 9lbs, and she gets 1/3 cup of dry in the morning, and 1/2 can (3oz meal) for dinner. The switch from free feeding to portioned can be a hard habit to break. Hang in there, as he'll adjust. Maybe try and distract him with toys.

In my opinion, I'd recommend a vet visit to rule out any thyroid, or worms issue.

Ohhh..that makes more sense! :)

He's probably just struggling with portioned/timed meals. Hang in there, he'll adjust! Best of luck!
