I recently posted about this kitten and now have another question. I took him in almost two months ago and he was about 3 weeks old then. I knew right off he had an umbilical hernia. I thought, "Okay, no big deal. I'll have it fixed when he is neutered." But it's gotten bigger. It's soft and moves. If he lays on his back it goes back into him and it goes almost flat but if he stands up again it's back out again. If you hold him up it's about the size of half of a golf ball sticking out and I'm start to think it's going to have to be fixed before his 6 months. It just keeps slowly getting bigger and I'm really starting to become worried. Is this normal or should he definitely have this fixed before the 6 month mark? I have no problem taking him to get it fixed early, I just really don't want to have to subject him to two different surgeries so young if they could do it all at once but if this is something that just cannot wait, I am okay with that. I am just wondering if that is the case. Thanks!

Also, unrelated but I heard Borax was extremely hazardous to cats and just them walking on the powder and it 'soaking' into their paws could kill them and now I hear of people using it to kill fleas around their cats? Is it not as poisonous as I was originally informed because this is something I really got scared about and I've stopped using this cleaner due to what I was originally informed.

I'd get your kitty to the vet for the hernia and to have him neutered.  He should be old enough and big enough (more than 2 lbs) for the surgery.

He's only about 2 and half months and he's not two pounds quite yet. He's a very healthy size and eats like he should but we've not reached two pounds just yet.

I got my kids two kittens from a shelter in June and discovered after a good petting the boy has an umbilical hernia. It pops back in very nicely but Nov 9th when he goes gets the big snip they'll be taking care of it. I honestly can't wait. I'm terrified it will strangulate. I can afford to fix it while it's not an emergency, but the moment they've got to dissect and remove dead intestine the cost goes up to the 1000$ mark and that'll kill me financially. However, there's no question it will be done. My son and daughter earned those kittens with straight A's through school last year. I could never tell my son I won't get his kittens hernia repaired for lack of 600$. A pet is forever...even through health problems. I wouldn't want to teach my 5 and 9 year old that putting a pet down for a minor medical reason is ok. I wouldn't put my kids down if I couldn't afford a minor surgery either. Truth be told I'm happy we adopted both kittens because I can't help but wonder if another person would bother fixing the issue. I know many that would put a kitty down for less.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to a future full of things getting knocked off shelves. LOL. They'll never let me have a cluttered house. The moment a shelf becomes too full they clean it off for me. So sweet....keeping thing tidy for me. Keep your fingers crossed that nothing major happens with our fuzzy ones belly hole.
