My Aunt's cat had suspected FIP. I just wrote her to get all the information I can. Her cat showed all the same signs as Tooter is. The vet was 99% sure it was FIP and he wouldn't make it, they tried some treatments and my Aunt used a prayer for cats (I know... people probably don't believe in this but she swears it saved her cats life and even if it isn't what saved him, what does it hurt?) I am getting the prayer from her as well. I will send it all to you including what treatments they tried on him.

Once he made a full recovery the vet then said it couldn't have been FIP because almost none survive. But he was 99% sure when Boomer was sick! And this vet is amazing, they only focus on cats so they are very knowledgable.

Anyway, sending good thoughts and prayers for Tooter, I hope she has the same outcome as Boomer! Like I said, I will post as soon as I have all the information! :)

Hey, I believe in prayer. I too prayed really hard for my feral rescue kitten recently. He stopped walking one morning and was wobbling when he tried. The vet said he has something nasty (we're still waiting for the results) and he 's not going to make it. She went as far as saying he's on his way to kitty heaven! That was her opinion. I felt otherwise. I nursed him and kept praying, and now he's walking and jumping around! He's still recovering and his progress is really good.

Just like people, animals are also different from each other. They too are unique in the way their bodies respond to certain treatments. So don't lose hope and give it your 100% before you throw in the towel!

Here's to Tooter, and all the others fighting to survive! :beerpals:

Here is the pet prayer, my Aunt swears this prayer saved her cats life. Boomer had ALL the signs Tooter has. It was a quick unset, the first thing that was noticed was his eyes. My Aunt went home one night and his eyes were horrible! The vet said after Boomer was treated that this would likely come back... it's been about two years and it has not come back!! All the vets working with him thought he would be blind... he isn't!

Good luck! She is going to confirm with her vet what treatments they tried. She tried a lot of things but she still thinks this saved his life. I'm praying for Tooter!

Hi Stephen,

Yes, I do believe it is dry FIP.

So far, there is no sign of fluid accumulation.

There is enlargement of her liver and kidneys, and her eyes are affected as well.

Thanks again to everyone for your well-wishes -- taking it day by day right now. As long as she is doing well, eating and drinking, those are the best signs :)
ok Well i'm sending positive vibes for you and Tooters!

Just wanted to thank everyone for their kind words, and prayers, and good vibes, and help, while we work trying to get Tooter better.

She is not doing well.

Sh'e been on the PI for two weeks now, and she is now having significantly more issues than when this first started.

Her kidneys are extremely enlarged, now protuding from her sides. This became more noticeable over the weekend -- since Friday, I have noticed a marked increase in the bulge on her sides.

She has lost the use of her hind legs -- this started a few days ago with a slight sidewards skew to her gait, to yesterday, she was dragging her hindquarters when she first got up. Today, she is unable to move her hindquarters at all.

She is in obvious pain -- crying a lot, and almost intolerant of being held. She nipped me the other day, and today she bit me, full force, enough to draw blood.

Funny thing is -- she seems to have regained most of her eyesight -- her eyes are clear, no signs of the blood that was in them a few weeks ago.

She's still eating, although she has become very picky, never eating the same thing two times in a row. I have a refrigerator full of food -- fish, chicken, two different canned cat foods, clam juice, homemade chicken broth, even ham -- yes, I'm giving her anything she'll eat. She'll eat a little at a time, then the next time, she won't eat the same thing she ate the last time.

Maybe if we had noticed the earliest signs, we could have done more for her. The irony is, her scheduled check-up was two weeks from now. And the signs we did see, we were too late.

I'm not beating myself up, I know it's not my fault. But it's so damned unfair! She is such a sweetie, and I don't know why this happened.

We have an appointment with the vet this afternoon, but I think this is as far as I want to make her go. I vowed to do everything I could to save her life, but also to recognize when it came time to let her go. I can't in good conscience let her go on, knowing that she is in pain.

If the vet can't give us any hope, we are going to have her put down.

I haven't cried so much since my mother passed away :)

I love her, probably more than any other cat or dog I've ever had. But I do not want her to suffer, and she is.

Bless you to all who showed a caring interest in Tooter, knowing there are people out there who care and want to help makes a huge difference.

I believe you are making the right decision.  If she isn't better on the PI then I think the time has come.  I'm so sorry.

I am so sorry. My heart is aching for you and Tooter. I think you have done a fantastic job taking care of Tooter. It's not easy taking care of a cat that sick. It's sad that Tooter is so young and is enduring so much suffering in her short life. I am sure you have done everything in your power to make her unfortunately short stay here as comfortable as possible. You're doing the right thing in making that decision.
You and Tooter are in my prayers. I wish you healing thoughts and may you find solace in the memories you have made with Tooter.

Hi

I am so sorry. You are making the right choice. It isn't fair to let her suffer. Truthfully I have never seen a good outcome with FIP and I think it was pretty much definitely FIP. I am sorry the new drug didn't work. I don't think if you knew immediately it would have made a difference. It is a horrible disease and sadly there is no cure as of yet. It is so hard when they are that young. It doesn't seem fair, but life isn't fair at all. Please be kind to yourself during this time and know that you have support in any decision you make for her.

I am so sorry about your Tooter!  I just got back the results of my Bella's coronavirus titer:  extremely high.  She too has uveitis and has blood levels indicating FIP. I cannot afford the medicine that you gave Tooter.

Right now, the eyes and the bad bloodwork are the only things, but I have seen a specialist and my own vet and they are saying that with as many "flags" as Bella has, we can conclude that it's FIP.  She's 2.

I will say a prayer for you as you walk the road of sending your kitty to the rainbow bridge!  My Bella might be coming right behind your Tooter...if she starts not eating, not coming with the family, litter box troubles, any signs like you are now describing with Tooter, we will know it's time.

((hugs)) to you and Tooter!

Hi, Theresa. I am so sorry to hear that. I feel so sad for Bella and Tooter. One of my cats died this past december from penumonia. We were too late to realize she was sick and then the vet we took her to left her unattended through the night. She had fluid build-up in her chest and she required ongoing drainage, and because the vet left her, she died gasping for air in a tiny cage, all by herself, while i slept in my warm bed. I cant even begin to describe the heartache im still feeling. I never got the chance to say goodbye to my love. So take comfort in the moments you still have and the fact that you'll make her as comfortable as possible through her last moments. There is mercy even in death. You guys are so brave and i find it very inspiring. I will keep you and Bella in my prayers.
