Hello everyone so I know this may seem irresponsible but I buy cat food for 4 days at a time and my kitten happened to eat yesterday two cans which left half a can for today. Anyways so she ate two meals today and her food finished. I still have dry food though but she doesn't eat much of it. I also have whiskas (I know I know but I bought it the very first day I got her before knowing anything about proper nutrition for her). So what do I do? The pet store opens in 10 hours. Should I give her dry food which she doesn't eat much of or give her the whiskas canned and risk her getting diarrehea? Is there any human food I can give her until the stores open? But I figure any food I give her would still be a sudden change in diet and would give her diarrhea so I guess dry would be best but she doesn't eat much of it.

Thanks in advance

She might get diarrhea anyways from eating a lot at once .

the best thing I can think of is boiling her some chicken and potato or rice

this will surely not give her diarrhea and will last her long enough.

hope that helps.

Well I do have chicken breasts but boneless. Can I still boil that for her? But what about taurine? I have some cooked rice and potatoes also but they were cooked with butter

Yes you can still boil that for her.
She will be fine without the taurine for a day or 2 don't worry

its preferable that you boil her some potatoes or rice and salt them lightly, for i am not sure how the butter is with cats especially kittens.

she will go nuts over the chicken

i just did a quick search too, meat has taurine so in case you weren't able to get pet food anytime soon you can give her some meat

BUT some of what i read said taurine is found when it's raw not when its cooked, and it is okay to give the cat raw meat because they are carnivores.

hope that helped too.

Thank you a lot! Yeah that's what I thought too but I would prefer boiling the chicken for her to avoid any bacteria that could be in raw chicken. Thanks again :)

You can sear the outside of the chicken to kill off surface pathogens, but you don't need to cook it all the way through. l would hold off on the rice and salt, and definitely hold off on potatoes! Your cat has no use for these.

This is just a stop-gap meal and not balanced. lt won't hurt just to feed plain meat once in a while.

I give mine plain chicken as a treat sometimes simply roasted or baked and then shredded and served with the natural juices and fat. warm, of course

i suggested potatoes and rice just to bulk up the meal, i had no idea they were useless, but i'm sure the chicken alone would be good.

Thank you all for the really helpful answers...one silly question though...How do I sear the outside of the chicken breasts? So simply boil it to half the time I would normally boil chicken ?

That would be good. Just drop it in to lightly cook the surface. Or grill it under broil quickly. Or pan-fry it just on the surface.

Mine eat both raw and cooked, and when l cook it l just cook the outside. l hope your kitty enjoys it.
