Hello all,

I'm new to this site, so forgive me if this is an FAQ or anything. :)

My male cat is about 15. He has never had fleas that I have known of in his life until we moved to the Seattle area. Almost as soon as we got here, I noticed one of the disgusting things racing across his belly. Fipronil, a flea bath, and a collar killed them for about a week, then I noticed them again. I took him to the vet for some other issues (teeth cleaning etc.) and she recommended a Program injection, which she said keeps the larvae/eggs from developing.  She said the fleas here are mostly resistant to Fipronil and that baths and collars don't do much. So Program sounded great to me! She warned me that this didn't mean adult fleas couldn't still find their way into the house and him, but I figured one or two fleas is better than a whole crap-ton. Anyway, he SEEMED to be flea-free for several weeks, although I know they are sneaky and I may just not have noticed them. I did see a few on him again recently, and have noticed the little rashy areas on his softer skin that I associate with him biting and licking to get to the itch.

My question is, though the Program is supposed to be good for 6 months, I hate seeing him still itching and annoyed, on top of the fact that it just grosses me out that there are bugs on my baby. :) What is a good adult flea medicine, or at least the one people have most success with?

It's definitely a new problem for us. I guess in drier areas, fleas are not as much of a problem as they are here. Thanks for any advice!
