I'm in the process of introducing the litter box. Cheddar has peed in it several times but still no poo. Do kittens learn to use it all the time with time or is there anything I need to do in specific? I'm still helping him go in the meantime.

Some of my kittens pee on my bed! (Just moved to a new apt before they were born, sleeping on air mattress) they go in mamas litter box idk if they are going or just curious/playing..my previous kittens as pets just went in on their own but they were older. Will they just go eventually when they get bigger?

Cheddar is adorable btw! :)

Cheddar is probably about 5-6 weeks old. Yes, I still stimulate him to go if I notice he hasn't gone in the litter box in a while.

Hi, Cheddar is adorable and a perfect name choice for an Orange Tabby!

I have plenty of experience with litter box training kittens:

Cat's are very self-sufficient especially when it comes to using the bathroom. Most of the litter box is self-taught but some of it comes from mom. Did you separate Cheddar from his mom this early or what is the story behind that? (Either way, not important to this thread).

Watch your kitten closely. If you notice he disappears or starts to squat, find him and move him to the litter box. He may take a few minutes and try to escape it but continue to put him in it until he goes. If he doesn't make it to the litter box and poops on the floor, pick up the poop and put it in the litter box. Cat's associate the majority of things with scent. He will realize that's HIS poo in the litter box and figure out that is where he is supposed to go.

I also suggest making sure you have a small enough litter box. A kitten will have a hard time getting into a litter box meant for full grown cats!!

One last thing, make sure you have a few litter boxes available to him. Imagine trying to run ALL the way across your house to get to the ONLY bathroom! Now imagine being a 5 week old kitten... that's a lot of work for the little guy!

Best of luck!

After our kittens started peeing in the box took a little while before they started pooping in/near the box. They had a little trouble at first and kept peeing right next to the box. The same thing with pooping, but they figured it out within a couple weeks.
