Hi All,

Should one feed a kitten once or twice a day?  What is best?

Kind Regards.

Depending on age, kittens should be fed 3-5 times a day. And they should be fed as much as they will eat at each meal.

She is on Dry food mainly.  At times other food is given to her e.g.: Tuna/Salmon etc.

I felt that as she should be on 60-70 grams a day as a kitten splitting it up into 3 meals

might be good but wanted to see if I was on the right track.

Kind regards to you all.

None of the above. A kitten needs to be fed several meals spread over the course of a day, so 3 - 5 is a good guideline; the younger the kitten, the more meals it needs. An adult cat generally gets fed two or more times a day (ours gets fed 4x, two main meals and two snacks).

I feed my adults twice a day - kittens should be fed as much as they want, ideally several meals throughout the day. I would give the last meal of the day when I go to bed. If you're feeding dry, you can measure out a few servings and leave it for her to free feed overnight. Let's say you sleep for 8 hours (and cats are more active at night), it'll feel like a very long time between meals even if you feed her right when you go to bed and right when you wake up, particularly because she is still very young. I would suggest feeding wet and dry. I know some others with kittens like to free feed dry and meal feed wet. Since kittens grow as quickly as they do, I wouldn't be concerned about limiting her food supply until she's closer to a year old.

When our kitten was younger, we kept dry food out all time and fed 3 wet meals at 8 am, 4 pm, and 11 pm.

I still feed 3 wet meals, but only leave a small amount of dry out overnight. He's almost 6 months old now.

Put down more wet food than you'll think he'll eat (at 9 weeks, probably a couple spoon fulls at first). At about 12 weeks, he may eat a full 3 oz can at each meal (so 9 oz of wet a day!). Then it will start tapering down again. From 12-20 weeks, our kitten was eating 9 oz a day, and then went down to 6-7 oz a day and has stayed there for the past month. They go through growth spurts so you don't want to limit their food or try to feed them as much as YOU think they should eat. It will seem like they are eating too much, but it's normal for growing kittens and it tapers off and becomes for normal as they reach 8 mos to a year old.

Up to 6 months, feed three or four times a day.  After 6 months, feed twice a day.  I don't free feed as I like to know if and how much each cat eats.  This is especially important when you have more than one cat.  And free feeding can lead to obesity.   Feeding once a day can mess up the body's insulin.  My opinion only.

I agree with SweetPea24, with the exception that I would feed 3 meals daily to a kitten 6-12 mo of age. After that, you can decide if you need to continue with 3 meals (before work, after work and bedtime) or if you want to drop down to 2 meals.

For me, my crew gets 2 wet meals and 2 dry "snacks." I have some who will eat too quickly and vomit if I alter this down to fewer meals.
