Kitty is up for his annual rabies vaccine, and this is the first time I'm taking him (or any pet) in for a vaccine. There seems to be many different opinions on type of vaccine to administer (killed? modified? huh?). He's indoor only. Any cliffnotes for me?

The brand name for the safest rabies vaccine is PUREVAX.  It's a nonadjuvanted vaccine, don't ask me what that means.  It's only certified for one year rather than 3 years although it probably has a much longer life than 1 year.  I read something recently about a shortage of PUREVAX vaccine, I don't know if that is still an issue or not.

Good question! I've been thinking the same thing with my cat, who will be 2 at the time of the rabies vaccine. I don't know much about them so I'm going to keep an eye on this thread and see what others say!

Thanks for posting this :)

Yep, PureVax is the way to go and even though the label states one year, it is good for 3+ years. That was based on the company's own research. Having to label it one year had to do with something trivial that the FDA didn't like if I can recall.

I recommend this article on vaccines:
