I'm not sure which of my 3 cats it is. We just moved so I thought the peeing and popping out of litter may stop. Nope! One cat was treated for coccidea and stool was clear. He has still been going diarrhea outside the litter box. Now after the move I noticed the other going and having same bolo and mucous as the other had. Can it be contagious? Also, my cat has been treated for crystals in stool - yet I'm still finding pee in the new house. It's not smell now. What food is best for this???? I'm so frustrated they have has antibiotics and such - I can't take pee and poop anymore

Hi serenalyn,

If one of your cats had coccidia, I believe all of them should have been given the proper medication to treat it. Additionally, strict sanitary hygiene is necessary to clean the infecting environment, using diluted bleach solution in 1:10 water to sanitize all litter boxes, steam clean floors, carpets, furniture, and wash bedding/clothing in hot water and dryer. You'll probably need to do this several times to rid of possible re-contamination in your house, especially whenever your cats eliminated out their boxes. I'd go back to the vet and talk to him/her about preventing recontamination and more prescription and getting the correct dose to each cat. Here is a link to read more about coccidia and treatment: http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=1+2122&aid=726

Unfortunately, I also believe the cat that is urinating outside the box probably has a UTI, so it's best to get him vet checked, too. If he was diagnosed to have struvite crystals in his urine (not stool), then he should have been put on a prescription diet from the vet. He should only be eating wet food and absolutely zero kibble to keep his system flushed and hydrated with lots of water to prevent urinary blockage. Stress from moving into a totally foreign environment probably has caused this to occur, but from reading your post, it sounds like you were having problems before. To prevent future soilage, you'll need to clean old urine spots with an enzyme cleaner like Nature's Miracle to rid of the odors. Buy the large gallon size. Even if you clean the spots with a regular household cleaner, urine will not break down, so it will smell again, and your cat will continue to resoil if he/she can still detect the scent.

I hope you find out which of your 3 is having problems and treat it soon. Please do not delay in taking them in to see the vet. Crossing my fingers for all of you.
