Hi,

I have a 20 wk old kitten called Delilah. I visited her with her mum from 2 weeks old and brought her home at 8 wks. She was tinier than her brothers, but seemed fit and healthy, eating and pooping well.
Then one day she went bloated and developed diarrhea, about 2 weeks after she came home.
At first it was explosive, yellow and mucousy. Over time it changed, with different diets tried, its been watery, shes been dehydrated, each time its been bad Ive thought, this is it :(  Her anus prolapsed.
Vets have had little hope in her, and keep recommending I put her to sleep.

This morning, after a few weeks of a steroid cream, her prolapse is totally inside again. Its only the first time its gone all the way back in and will possibly come back out a bit but its a great sign. Its been going smaller, then coming back a bit over the last week or so.

However, even on pure chicken and rice and 3 times daily kaogel (stool bulking agent)  she's still got very unpredictable stools, she leaks, its yellow and very soft. She needs bathing every day.

She has not gained weight, or lost weight, in two weeks. Shes the weight of a 4 wk old kitten.
I wasn't monitoring it before then, but shes not grown a bit since I got her.
She is tiny but shes full of life, although her back legs are a bit compromised from the pain shes been in.

Vets refuse to do testing as they are adamant its a gut problem due to "lack of colostrum"

I saw her feeding with mum, but she was born 4 days after the rest of the litter, or so Im told.  She was healthy until she was 10wks old and has been wormed etc.

Meant to say...
Anyone got any ideas why she'd have diarrhea for so long, not gain weight, any tips what I can do to bulk up her poo, and her. She needs to grow :/

Hi

My kitten also had diarrhea for many days and I change her diet for nutram (is a canadian brand) and the same day it stop. I used the normal kitten dry food of that brand just in case, I dont know if it will work for you you could try that.

Also yesterday I saw an article about a cat with diarrhea that the had being going for a year or so and this person explain more or less how he treat it and cure it

I hope it help you somehow

Here is the link

Best wishes for you and your cat!

Im reluctant to change her diet again, as it seems there is more going on than a simple food thing. Even on pure scrambled egg, or pure chicken, shes still not got over the diarrhea, and on a lot of Kaogel bulking agent.
She's had biscuits one before and she bloated up.

Ive ordered pro biotics to try and see if it helps.

There are a number of things that could be causing the prolonged diarrhea and lack of weight gain and growth.

- Parasites (need to run a GI PCR...this is sent to an outside lab.)

- Absorbtion disorder (this is a special blood panel...also sent to outside lab.)

- Food Intolerance (She could be allergic to Chicken and Chicken products...thus why no change when fed chicken and eggs. I have a cat like this...he even had allergic reaction to his Rabies vaccine due to it being made using EGGS.)

- FIP (there is no definitive test for this; but, based on lab work, ultrasounds and other diagnostics, you can often get a suspected diagnosis.)

Has your vet done ANY of these tests?

At this point, I would be going to another vet for a second opinion.

I followed the advice from that article and I'm pleased to say it worked. Along with pro kolin pro biotic we did the chicken mush diet and within days we had better poops. The prolapse then healed and we worked back onto kitten food.
She has other problems now though but we don't know what.
She's negative for FIP and everything else the vet tested for.
