Hello! I'm fairly new, decided to make an account for some help. I've recently rescued a kitten at 6 weeks - I know, he was very young to be taken from his stray mother but he was given to me and I couldn't say no. He's 8 weeks now and is the most energetic and playful kitten I've encountered. When I got him he had a bad case of diarrhea. I'm not sure how long he had it for but his butt was very red and irritated and after a day I decided he needed the vet asap. A stool sample was taken and ruled out any parasites. Other than being young the vet said he was good and gave me an ointment for his butt and antibiotic for the diarrhea. I believe it was Meta.. I can't spell it out :( anyway it worked after a few days. His stool became more formed. His butt was back to normal. Now he has it again but I know why - new food. He was originally eating science diet canned food but he all of a sudden stopped eating it. He are his dry food a little and water but I was concerned he was eating enough so I tried blue wilderness. I stupidly forgot to gradually transition him to it. But he ate it happily. I've been mixing it with the old food so his stomach can get used to it but he doesn't eat it. And if he does, he very carefully eats the new and leaves the old! So now I'm wondering how can I help him with his diarrhea? He's still drinking just fine and still as playful as ever. Also, if someone can help me to stop him from biting? I got him a whole bunch of toes, little balls, mice, feathers, etc. he loves them but still bites! I always have to give him a toy to play with when he starts biting but he stops playing with it after a few minutes and pounces on my feet or hands for more biting!

Hi and welcome to TCS! :wavey:

I'm not surprised he has diarrhea. He's still very young and the sudden food change can do that. How long has he had it? Perhaps he just needs a couple of days for his little stomach to settle.

As for the biting, it could be worse as he was taken so young and therefore didn't have as much time to learn proper play from his littermates. They teach each other boundaries for how hard to bite or scratch.
You could pose that question in our Behavior Forum and you should get some good ideas on how to gently teach him:

Thank you for the welcome! Yeah I wasn't surprised either. But he had stopped eating like he usually did for 3 days so I was worried he wasn't getting enough nutrients and acted in haste. It's been 2 days. It seems to go from runny to very loose stools to runny again. I've heard pumpkin can help firm his stools? And thank you I will check that forum for the biting issue.
