Not sure if this is actually a nutrition query, but now that windows and doors are open more (it's summer
) flies are getting in the house.  And indoor-only Ruby not only spots them, she catches and  then eats them.   I find it rather gross, and I do try to encourage the flies to leave the house before the Rubinator gets them, but she's clearly a hunter at heart. So my question is, is there any harm in her eating flies, ants, etc. ?

This is a very good question!  Especially depending on where you live, other insects may become prey as well and depending on pesticides this could be a no-go.  Flies in general are good nutritionally, and good exercise for your kitty.  We have giant American cockroaches called palmetto bugs here, and even though I hate them, no one really sets out pesticides for them here so they're fairly safe food/toys for the cats.

Ive always been told that eating flies makes a cat thin but im not sure its just 2 me the thought of my cat eating sumthing so dirty after all flies land on some pretty nasty things so I wouldn't let ur cat eat them but sumtimes its impossible to stop them

nah. Flies are the perfect workout
there's even supposed to be taurine in them.

but then I'm one of those organic gardeners who's horrified at what my neighbors spray around. So I'd check with any spray-happy humans first if they did anything to your flies.

I read that eating fleas infected with tapeworm can give a cat tapeworm. YMMV

hey, we're not suggesting the Rubinator is infested with fleas!
 no way.
Thankfully, she's had no fleas since I adopted her, but she also hasn't been outside.   But if she did have fleas, she'd probably try eating them too.
