Hi! I'm only 14 and I am worried about my cat. My cat, Bella, just gave birth to one kitten. Unfortunately, this kitten did not make it. We removed the baby and the after birth right after it was born. She gave birth about an hour or so ago. She is acting completely normal now. We can't afford a vet visit so I don't know what to do. I don't know if she has any more in her stomach or not and if so, I have no clue if they are okay. What can I do?????

If she is normal and no visible troubles, you can essentially wait and see.  They can have interrupted labor, some hours or even some days.

If this first kitten was premature, it is quite possible the rest will come days after.  With any luck, healthy and alive.

You DO observe of course, being vigilant,     As said, if no problems, you can await.  If you contact a vet, he will probably tell you the same advice.

But.   If you notice she isnt OK, raised temp, long unfruitful labor, bleeding living blood (more than some red colored discharge or some few droplets), pus coming out - long prolonged painting - yes, almost anything unusual showing discomfort - you must contact a vet and be prepared to rush her in.

 - she may have some minor contractions, so some panting may be normal, as long it not prolonged.

If you need money, you can perhaps lend from some neighbour?   Or promise Ma and Pa or some relative, you will work extra for them??

If you need help, and your parents are helpless them too, try to get help from a mom of several children.  Such persons are used to organize things and solve problems also when therie is hurry and stress...   Its good if this person is used with small animals, but not strictly necessary.

Continue to report and ask questions!

Good luck!

Ps.  Does the mom seems to miss the dead kitten?

If yes, its a good idea to show her its dead, so she wont miss it and search.

If she has understood its dead, it was only good you took away it.  They do so themselves too.

ps.

If she gots more stillborn kittens, you may try to perk life in them by warming them up.   Sometimes its enough.  Massage them, warm them up...

It happens not seldom with piglets, and the farmers do it the easy way: they submerge the body (not head) in warm water...

If they are premature but alive, it will be more difficult.  It may be possible to save them, but it is lotsa work and fight uphill.

"But the day, the sorrow" as the swedish proverb says.

I dont understand the situation on this short description.  I suppose you mean the situation  its not the most usual.  And you are the cats main caretaker.  So when you are away, what happens?

In this situation its best somebody  is around to be able to at least, raise alarm to get help. Preferably someone Bella knows and likes.   Some nervous person whom Bella dont trusts, and who doesnt have any clue nor the will,  will NOT be any help.

Im sorry. You must analyze the situation, and try to either be there with her -, till you know everything is entirely OK = best,  or else find somebody reliable whom is willing to take the responsibility when you arent there.  A family member or a friend or neighbour...  Preferably someone whom Bella trusts.

What are the adults saying?  Its really their responsibility??

I mean, it is as it is, and if it cant be done so it cant be done.   Lets hope for the best anyway.

But what should be done, is best to try and do.

Good luck!
