My cat Mia is about 6-7 weeks pregnant and I can feel her babies moving. Their not gentle movements at all?? Is she going to go in labor soon?? It's my first time on here and with a pregnant cat. I have a box for her with a soft blanket. ( after this litter I am going to get her fixed when it's safe)

She has always slept on this big comfy chair; will she have her kittens on the chair??

she might, but as far as i know cats give birth in a safe warm closed up space.

you can prepare for her a box with towels and introduce her to it and she will most likely give birth there:

"Set up a nest.  Usually she will display nesting signs days before the birth is imminent and this is the perfect opportunity to direct her to the quiet, dark corner that you have already prepared for her. Cut down a large cardboard box  with high sides and fill with oldtowels, fluffy blanketsnewspapers  etc., basically any old soft thing that you can spare and do not mind getting soiled. It shouldn't have any strong scents, since the mother and kittensrecognize each other by smell. The laundry  or a bathroom  are great places to encourage her to remain; just ensure that no kids  or dogs  are rushing through this spot at any time. The mother must feel safe and relaxed in her nesting area. She should have easy access to fresh water, a little bit of food, and the litter box (which should be about two feet away--putting it too close can increase the chance of disease)." from wikihow.

enjoy the new kittens

You feel them move when its about 2 weeks left.  If you are skilled at palpating,, it may be even almost 3 weeks.

Its my guess she is at least week 7 now, perhaps even 8.  In the last days when they kittens go down into birthing postiion, they will not move as much.

Some links to read:

We have a good collection of articles in the Cat Health section which you can access by scrolling up to the brown bar, clicking on Articles, and then choosing the Cat Health section and scrolling through the choices.  To make this super easy for you, I am copying the links regarding birth, delivery and newborns for you here.  After reading this information, let us know if you have any more questions.  And good luck with your approaching new arrivals.

My cat has always slept on this big comfy chair since I got her a year ago and know she is 6 weeks pregnant will she have her kittens on the chair??
Let me say so:  they tend to use the prepared nest in the last moments, or even - after the delivery.  They dont want to have their nest soiled too early...

If she sees the chair as her coming nest, she will probably NOT deliver in there.   But if she knows there IS a nest prepared for her, yes she may.

May advice is you have some sheets on this chair, so you will not get the chair soiled, but just the sheets, which you just change.

I mean, even if she doenst delivers there, she may have different discharges during these her last weeks.   And thus will soil.

Good luck!

ps.   I will ask a mod to merge your two questions into one thread, as it is the same cat and essentially similar problem.

i think that is normal to have them dry, the milk will come out when the kittens breastfeed and stimulate it.

Yay, 4x the happiness

We had a stray cat who is our outdoor cat now give birth to 4 kittens, she did it pretty fast and she did pretty well, in an hour or less she had given birth to 4 and they're all alive and well.

I read that you will have to make sure she licks open the sack which the kitten is in otherwise they would die, but i think she will do just fine.

i did quick search and all i could find is that blood in stool in pregnant cats is might be early signs of labor.
and since your cat is huge i would assume she is in early stages of labor now.

can you call your vet and ask? if you can then call.

was it alot of blood or just a bit? i remember seeing bit blood in the anus/vagina of the cat we had that gave birth before she gave birth.

It was just a little blood. She hasn't showed any signs of labor though

i think it is normal, it's just early signs, i've seen it on my cat and i think she gave birth about 1 -2 weeks after, she didn't show signs of labor either, it just happened suddenly

if she is acting normal and nothing seems wrong, i think you shouldn't be worried, though you can call your vet for peace of mind.

She's acting normal so I don't think I have anything to worry about. But I will call my vet just to make sure

Milk should come out if you squeeze her nipples. If none, she may not be as far along as you think. The milk in pregnant cats does not usually begin to accumulate until closer to the birth. You will know when she is close because you will be able to feel milk sacks when you feel around her nipples.

This may not be in all cases however. Don't panic if she does not have milk now, her kittens just may need to stimulate it after they are born. Only consider bottle feeding if you notice she still does not have milk for her kittens in the first days following their birth. Contact a vet.

As far as knowing when exactly she is ready to give birth, all of my cats have become overly affectionate and vocal. Sometimes they seemed restless and could not get comfortable.

Continuously check your kitty's backside. If her vagina appears to be dilating, it is close. Also, cats have what I've always called a "plug". It is a creamy, yellowish color that will excrete from the vagina when your cat is going into labor. Similar to that of a woman's water breaking. If you notice this, put her in her box or nest you have picked out for her. She may be reluctant to stay and you may need to keep putting her back there. Eventually she will get the point, lay down and over the next few (sometimes many) hours you should have a litter of kittens. She will begin breathing heavily. Do not be concerned here either, labor is hard work!  Along with the breathing, she will appear push every few minutes. These are contractions and another hint that your kittens are on their way!

Being her first litter, you may want to stay with her or at least check on her every 30 minutes or so to make sure she is O.K. If she is a small sized cat, she may need help delivering. All babies are supposed to come out HEAD FIRST. If you notice little kitten paws before kitten nose and ears, this could cause her some problems. Have some latex gloves handy, be prepared to pull on her next contraction. Do not be concerned with hurting the kitten, your most important job is getting him or her out ASAP.

She will take time between each kitten to chew off the umbilical cord and eat the placenta. Do not discourage this. It is in their nature and provides nutrients for her milk to help nurse her kittens.

If you notice her time between kittens is too long or that she has stopped labor and you can still feel kittens inside her, CONTACT A VET. It is not the end of the world but it should be a concern.  There are many different things that could be wrong. She could have stillborns, or simply just be tired.

I hope this information helps you! Best of luck and keep us updated
