Hello dear cat lovers!

To begin with, it was one very usual evening when I was walking home. Then out of nowhere, a little stray kitten on shaky legs crossed my way...

Without much thinking, I picked it up took it home with me. After I gave it milk, water and meat, it quickly regained it's speed and agility and started to play around like any other healthy kitten.

However, one peculiar feature of this kitten are it's unusual eyes, I can see flaps of tissue on them... I think its blind in one eye and has weak vision in the other...

I have attached a few pics of it, please be so kind and have a look.

PLEASE

If you have an idea what this cat is suffering from, don't hesitate to inform me.

Have you heard of any natural home remedies? Please tell me...

Due to the fact that we dont have many vets around and none of them are of good quality, that would be my last choice...

Any help highly appreciated :-)

I have no experience at all when it comes to eyes, but it looks to me like the kitten's inner eyelid is covering up the eyes. Well the half closed eye, anyway. I'm not sure about the other one. In any case, try calling a vet even and asking about what it could be. Also look up online 'cat inner eyelid ailments' or something like that. I'll be searching too.

Thank you for rescuing this kitty!!  The "flaps" are what's called the third eyelid and they become inflamed and begin covering the eye when the kitty is sick, so a vet trip is definitely in order.  Don't wait, get the cat medical attention today.

From what I saw online, what could be causing this is weight loss. It says that the fat layer behind the eye may have decreased, and the eye got out of its proper position, so the inner eyelid came out. It could also be that the eye got hurt somehow.

Aww, thank you for taking him in! I agree, it looks like the third eyelid... third eyelid problems aren't that uncommon. Hopefully even if the vets in your area aren't top of the line, they may be familiar with treating the problem causing it. If it's an eye injury causing the third eyelids to be prominent, it's better to have him seen and ensure he's not in any pain. The milky colour of the right eye is a bit concerning. I wouldn't be surprised if the cat's vision was effected in that eye.

In the future, you may want to avoid giving the cat cow's milk because it can give them diarrhea and dehydrate them. Cats are lactose-intolerant.

Good luck!

You can probably get goats milk (more expensive but worth it) -- even WalMart carries it in their dairy section, around here anyhow.

We had one kitten in rescue last year who had the third eyelids scarred together, looked kind of like the right eye on this cat, but we knew it was left over from an upper respiratory infection.  The third eyelids often come up in that situation to protect the eye, and usually they go back down when the illness i over, but in our little guy, they had just enough inflammation and scar tissue to get stuck together. When we took the kitten in to be neutered, our vet was able to gently dissect away the scar tissue and allow both top and bottom third eyelids to return to their normal position and the cat healed up with perfect eyes.  The sooner you take this guy to the vet, the better.  If he has a scar tissue band, the sooner it's released, the faster the eye will return to normal.

This cat has an eye infection from what I can see.    The drops usually are not expensive.    But it has to be seen by a vet for a prescription.    There are organizations that will help if you are poor.   use google or ask your local animal shelter - they will be able to tell you how to apply for help.
