Well, since my passion is for the feral cat TNR programs then mine would be the couple of organizations that I try to volunteer for and help with fundraising events. Feral Fixers and PAWS.

Tokyo ARC.

They're one of the few animal rescue groups in Japan and do a fantastic job. They took in and re-homed lots of cats, dogs and other animals that lost their homes and their owners in the 2011 earthquake and tsunami.

They've helped me re-home some of the feral kittens I rescued too.

PAWS...definitely. I have been a foster for them for a while now and I have to say that they are awesome. They have a great screening process for homing the cats/dogs and are really responsive to the needs of the animals in their care. They also respond very quickly to calls to their hotline for help. I have been quite impressed so far. Their networking is excellent too, and they really go out of their way to raise awareness and find homes for the animals taken in.

I'll give a shout out for two.

First, is a local one; Summit Animal Rescue (S.A.R.A.) located in Summit and Berkeley Heights, NJ.  We adopted Cocoabean through them.  Great group of people, are pretty good at the fundraising thing, have weekly adoption days in two pet supply stores.  They only foster the animals, some for incredible lengths of time so the dedication is really high with everyone who is involved.  They are great at screening and have high placement records.  Will go to neighboring towns, and have a wide network of other organizations looking out for each other.

The other is very far from home and many people here probably know about them.  It's "The Itty Bitty Kitty Committee" of Tacoma, WA.  I've been really impressed with Laurie Cinotto's fostering and fund raising over the years.  This year, she managed to pull in $120,000 for the local no-kill shelter.  They are building special rooms for senior cats, and kittens.  She is the model of how to do it right and even though nowhere near home, I also support her efforts.  If only every shelter/rescue organization were able to be as efficient.

I like to support small local shelters & the one I'm currently helping out however I can is a privately run shelter near Newmarket in the UK. It's called Animal Craziness & is run by a tirelessly devoted lady called Jo. She takes in strays & unwanteds. I got my two newest babies from her.

She does this all from her own pocket, offering dog walking, microchipping & whatever meagre donations she can raise. I recently persuaded some local builders supply merchants to donate her some much needed fence panels, posts & a door to replace ones that had rotted away.

Jo never says no to helping a cat, kitten, dog, bunny or other smaller furry & feathered animals & the love & dedication she shows them (often at the expense of her personal life) is amazing.

This is a link to her website if you're interested in looking. It says a bit about what Jo does, shows her past & present re homes & I know that if anyone felt they wanted to donate to her shelter, she would be incredibly grateful for any & all help offered.

Jo & Trish who helps out deserve all the praise I can give them & I am very grateful that there are people like Jo who care so much.
