6-24-14 my Sugiebear (indoor cat normally) Had gotten bitten when she went outside for few mins around 830a, Rt cheek started swelling  We set up quickest apt to see Vet at 315p. By time we got to Vet she was getting better and ok minus 10% her normal self.  She is normally a bubbly energized 1yr kitty, 9lbs. But she wasn't her best after that bite.

Note: as soon as she got that shot...she literally nose dived way worse when we got home, we didn't know what was the cause, the bite the med what? Came home w/ malaise, restless and tried to drink couldn't hardly as she hovered over the water bowl, seemed to almost want to vomit but didn't. She  wanted to lay around on our tile floor and rest.  We thought she just needed to let everything get out of her system and be better nx day. Much later into night after midnight, husband said she moewed like she was uncomfortable when he touched her so he tried to make her comfortable. He was worrying about her and didn't go to sleep himself, recalling her last meow at 4a.m. he finally went to sleep..thinking she went to sleep under the bed.  We believe that final meow was her last.  We found her dead under the bed room temp. to touch and still at 915a.m on 6-24-14. She died less than 12h post depo Medrol shot day before.  Our bouncy kitty barely over a year old, and all of 9 lbs, deceased.  Sugar was a beautiful white cat w/ some hints of strawberry blonde on her ears and tail. Fur was smooth as silk.  Blue sky eyes too!!!!!!!!  Gone.

Vet said autopsy could confirm.  No we didn't want to do that, it wouldn't change anything.  The vet was a nice person, wish we had someone to blame.  But, angry and sad as I am...meds have side effects and never know when it can affect u or someone u love.  Hate it!!!!!!!!!!  Sad Sad Sad wish we would have waited or maybe not went to vet let time heal it?  I don't know, because we were worried and were loving pet owners.

Just beware of meds such as depo Medrol.

Just beware of meds such as depo Medrol.  The vet did say r/t a spider bite she NEVER saw a cat die that fast ever.  We are led to believe it is the medication, as I nurse not a vet.

Oh, I am so sorry to hear about your sweet cat! That is so sad, and so terrifying that it happened so fast. I have the same fears - I trust my vet to know best, and then I see stories like yours that are so upsetting. Prayers and healing thoughts for you and your family. Please don't beat yourself up - you did what you thought was best!!

Deepest condolences to you.  We do our very best for them and sometimes these unforeseen consequences happen.  My GSD's immune system suffered a complete break-down following an experimental chemotherapy regime (prestigious university vet hospital that had only had good results up until that time).  I lost her a year later after watching her suffer a heart-breaking decline.  If I could do it all over again, you know?  I did what I believed was in her best interests at the time and that's the thought that gets me through the rough moments.

*Hugs*

I wish I would have read these horror stories before allowing my vet to give my cat depo-medrol. She was healthy but had a slight cough from allergies. After being given the shot she was dead within 5 days. Please do not give your cat this shot. It last 4 weeks. Go with a daily med so you can see how they respond.
