Hi everyone, just a quick call for anyone that may be living in Australia and that may know an excellent vet in inner Sydney.

I have had a bad experience with an expensive vet in my area (Potts Point) after their check, the lady vet didn't even get the sex of my cat correct. So now I can't really trust them.

My boy Banjo seems to have eaten something that he shouldn't have (I found a headband with my long hairs in the middle of his vomit yesterday) and I see he's better now, but I want to make sure by taking him to the vet on the weekend, or earlier if he vomits or have diarrhea again.

Any help is appreciated. I know must of the people in the site is from North America, but this world is so small that maybe, just maybe, someone can recommend someone.

Cheers!

Hi Coco and Rose !  (how come Banjo didn't make it into there?
)

I always recommend that people seek out cat-only Vets as their starting point in a search for a competent feline practitioner.....my reading of peoples' tales of woe here and on other forums is that, when things get complicated with a cat, general practice Vets drop the ball....so, in the vast majority of cases, they are best left for the dogs !

Now, you are very fortunate because, there is a Veterinary school in Sydney - The University of Sydney Faculty of Veterinary Science - and it operates a cat hospital: The Valentine Charlton Cat Centre    These centres are teaching hospitals with certified specialists and state-of-the-art equipment as well as (often) access to clinical trials of new medicine. You can contact them directly to book appointments - and, they also accept referral appointments from community Vets.

If instead, you prefer to find a community Vet, a search for "cat-ONLY" Vets will most likely provide the best starting point....now, that won't guarantee competency, but, again, it's where the road begins. If you are going to browse online "ratings" (so in vogue these days but, IMO misguided) I pay no attention to the positive ones and scrutinize the negative ones carefully (is the complaint about 'bedside manner, cost...or competency ?)

I did the briefest of online searches and found this listing of two other cat-only clinics (which is also where I found the University): catdoctor.com

Also........."cat-ONLY" designation is now 'under fire' from general practice Vets who have mounted the marketing ploy of "cat-FRIENDLY", making superficial changes while conducting 'business as usual'.

Keep us posted on your search and your choice !

That's great advise White Shadow thank you very much. Thank God Banjo is much better now and so will be able to research this on the weekend and go from there. But I feel you have put me on the right track, so thank you very much for that. I actually have to de-sex my sweet girl Coco (below) soon too.

Thanks a lot again!

What a gorgeous girl. I love longhair black kitties, even though all of mine are shorthair and not black. I don't have any more advice for you than what White Shadow already said, hope you find a good vet soon.
