Hi,

I've got a seven week old stray kitten that I am syringe feeding because she is not much interested in food and needs to gain some weight. She loves the syringe feeding, but I'm not sure how much food a day she needs or how often I need to feed her. I've had single kittens like this before but they've always been chow hounds or I had the mother cat, too and so was less concerned about total intake.

Thanks.

It isn't normal for a 7 week old kitten not to be interested in food.  Have you tried offering exactly what is in the syringe in a bowl and see if she likes that?  A vet visit is definitely in order

I agree with Stephen on both accounts.   Here is something odd, he seems too weak to be entirely healthy.   Even if you are aware you shall try and get him to put on more weigh...   At first I was a little baffled.  The usual recipe is often, several times a day, and  as much as they want.   It is also unusual  they still use bottle / syringe.

Allthough bottle babies are usually a little later with eating real food.

So, often and as much as he wants.  Be of course careful he doenst gets too much as you are practically forcefeeding him. You dont want reflux... So if unsure, better small portions but really often.

What food are you giving him?  I suppose it is kmr of some sort, which?

I would suggest you try with some goat milk.  Fresh is best, bottled OK too.   Cant hurt, may help...    :)

If you dont have problems with salomonella in eggs at your place, add egg yolk in this goat milk, or whatever you use.

You can also mix in some wet cat food in this kmr....   Also, be sure he has enough with fluids.  If he is weakish, be sure it is warm enough.  Sick people are almost always freezing.

And begin with cat food on plate.  Wet cat food, or  Royal canin has a really good dry food for kittens,  Babycat I think its called.

Some nice vitamine paste, alike Nutrical, can be useful here too...

There are also several other tips for foods to try, but it will come later if you need and wish to know...

So, try this with more food etc.  But also, if you have nearby a decently good vet, please consult this vet.  It is wise here.  Clearly.

Good luck!    @lblevy228
