I have a 1 1/2 year old neutered male tabby, Jim. He is up to date on all vaccinations. He has always been a bit of a couch potato, and is overweight. He has always been on the jumpy side, but this is different.

We are extremely worried about him, and I'm taking him to the vet in the morning regarding this situation, but I would really like your opinion.

On Friday, I noticed that Jim was even more lazy than usual. He didn't leave our bedroom for any reason other than to use the litterbox. He didn't seem in distress really, he just laid on the foot of our bed getting belly rubs. However, later, when trying to get him off the bed, he petty much velcro'd himself to the bed. He seemed terrified to move. Saturday, he was acting really strange. Any little movement totally freaked him out. He seemed totally unfamiliar with his surroundings. Stationary objects scared him, and he seemed afraid of the floor. He kept watching it as if there was something moving around. That afternoon, I noticed he had jumped onto his favorite windowsill. I watched him, and it seemed like he wanted to get down. He would crouch like he was going to jump down, but would roll his head around, sometimes looking out from the sill upside down for a second, then just sat back down on the sill. He started to walk onto a platform he used to really like dozing on, but saw my son's baseball bat, sniffed it, then jumped as if it had moved and scrambled back to the sill. I put him on the ground, but as soon as his feet hit the floor he totally spazzed out, started flipping and scrambling and jumping around, then jumped back onto the windowsill, fur all fluffed out like he was scared.

He isn't aggressive. He isn't drooling, attacking anything, growling or really making any noises at all. However, his pupils are fairly dilated and don't seem to constrict much at all when I shine a light at him. The light seems to really hurt his eyes.

I am so worried, because on June 4th I found a brown bat in the house. Our other cat was looking at it, and I assume had played with it. It was pretty badly injured and died. Now I'm worried it gave my cat rabies. I don't know now how effective the rabies vaccine is. Our other cat and dog seem fine. I have Jim quarantined until tomorrow, just to be safe.

What could this be??

Also, we have his brother, Legos, who seems fine. He is healthy, active and playful, always has been. Even though they are brothers, they have very different personalities. Jimmerz is very low-key, Legos is more hyper, vocal and playful. Jim is overweight, Legos is very fit.

I'm so glad you've seen this change and are taking him to the vet tomorrow.  I have no idea what's going on, but hope the vet has some clues.  Keep us posted.
