I have a 1 yo neutered male indoor cat who is just crazy for dry food.  I would like to have him eat both wet and dry but he will hold out for the dry.  I use a good quality dry (Fromm, Origen and a couple of others - mix). Lots of water available.  I have been using Tiki Cat chicken, Cat's in the Kitchen and some other quality tinned food.

My previous cats had 2 wet meals/day and one feeding of dry in the evening.  Worked out well.

I seem to have created a problem.  Your thoughts on how to improve the situation.  How bad is the dry and do you have tips on encouraging the wet.

Thank you

Hi elizabeth1st,

Have you ever read catinfo.org? The feline advocate and veterinarian who wrote that has many "tricks" she uses to get her kibble addict to convert over to wet food. The process will be slow change over time, but very worthwhile in the long run, especially since you have a male kitty!

I do hope you take the time to read it and take little chunks of valuable information at a time! Well wishes to you and your kitty!

I agree with EmandJee that it's worth switching cats over to wet food! Our two rescue cats, who we adopted in December when they were 10 months old, were also focused on their dry food but I weaned them off it within about a month. I started by giving them just a small dish (maybe 2-3 T each) of dry food at night then gradually reduced the amount to a few kibbles on top of their bedtime serving of wet food. By that point we all forgot about the dry food within a few days. Now they eat only canned and commercial raw foods.

Good luck, elizabeth1st!
