I was so impressed with this site I decided to join just this morning! What an amazing meeting place for cat lovers!

My  3 year old cat Gustav, who is normally a huge eater and a very active cat recently started acting a little lethargic, sleeping more and became a more picky eater (although he does eat), He lost three pounds according to the vet, who also said his liver readings were off the chart. This is quite alarming and although there is cause for concern, her whole approach is not supportive but more "OH MY GOD!" He's a time bomb!" He has shown a slight improvement lately , more active and eating more. Vet wanted to do an ultrasound but she is so off-putting I am looking for another vet (more holistic) and in meantime  I thought I would check out any feedback from members of the Cat Site who may have experienced the same thing,

You definitely do need another vet.  If he is eating a lot less then he probably is in hepatic lipidosis and the only treatment is that he takes in enough calories to stop the process in his liver.  http://www.petmd.com/cat/conditions/digestive/c_ct_hepatic_lipidosis   This is probably what has caused the high liver values.

Of course the question is, what caused the loss of appetite that led to hepatic lipidosis.  The lipidosis also causes loss of appetite, it's a vicious cycle and the disease perpetuates itself but it is very very rarely the original cause of the loss of appetite.
