Good morning and Happy Friday!

Today's question is about gassing your vehicle.

How often do you put gas into your vehicle? Do you fill the tank or do you put a certain amount of gas in the tank? What is the price per gallon in your neck of the woods right now?

I put gas into Hannah (Hyundai Tucson) every other week, usually about $40, which doesn't fill the tank. The tank is usually about 3/4 full. I don't drive her that often in the summer.

I usually put about $20 worth of gas into Clarence (PT Cruiser) every week, which takes the tank to about half-full. Clarence gets better gas mileage than does Hannah, so I like to drive him more during the summer.

This morning, gas was $3.67 per gallon.

Back when I used to drive about ten minutes one way to work five days a week in my hometown, I would gas up about once a month (a Corolla) for $35-$40 back when gas was under $1.15/L ($4.36/gal) and fill it right up from 1/4 or 1/2 tank. Even back then (pre-Sept), gas was more expensive here than the US. When I was working three jobs, the second and third ones closer to 20-25 minutes away by highway, I think I'd have to fill my tank every 2.5-3 weeks.

I used to have what is now a cute little rule: I'll only get gas when the price dips back under $1/L.
Guess I'm never driving anywhere again!

I might still have a chance to gas up by that rule in the US, but it seems so pointless to sit in my idling car at the border and give a little more with the exchange rate, especially living so far away now. My boyfriend gets gas maybe once every 3 or 4 weeks in his Alero (filling it up) depending on where he has to go. All his friends and colleagues live a few cities away, so unless we're making a grocery run or going to the cat-vet, no trip is shorter than 20 minutes. The upside is he doesn't leave the apartment otherwise...

Now gas is $1.41/L here... $5.34/gal. It's a bit cheaper back in my hometown, but it's so close to the border that my parents always go to the US to gas up.

I go to the station when the orange light nags me, which is about once a month during the summer. Fill it up to full. Not very happy with the mileage, but it's a 2004 Focus. It's $3.79 a gallon at the Shell that I go to.

Gas has dropped to $3.53 from $3.79.  When I rack up enough $ off on my fuel perks, I fill up.  Otherwise I just throw in $20 to $40 to get by.  If I don't have to leave the county, then I don't have to gas up too often.  I can get by on a tank for about a month.

If we have it we fill my car but usually I put in just enough to get by and not be to low as my thing is a bit off at the end. Have not been driving much as he now goes with me for the heavy items so I do not have to lift it so 10 is lasting month when I used to do about 40 a month.  Husband drives a lot and will fill it about 6 times a month.  Gas is currently 3.43 at the cheapest station within 5 miles.  We have 4 Wawas within 5 miles.  Near his work is 2 more.

Close to the prices here, we found a gas station yesterday for $1.35/L so got gas there but others were $1.40/L. My husband puts anywhere from $20-$50 in the tank at a time, usually a couple times a week.

I always fill up all the way. No reason not to---I'm definitely going to use it, not like it'll go to waste! And it doesn't matter if I buy it now or later. Plus Hondas are notoriously finicky about having less than half a tank, especially in the winter, and my old Civic is particularly cranky about it, so I try to fill up when I hit half a tank. I don't always manage to remember though :tongue2:.

I think the current price here is $3.47.

Last time I looked gas was $3.79 here.  Now that I work from home I usually only fill up every 3 or 4 weeks, when I go to Youngstown I have to use an extra tank of gas.  I almost always fill up.  I get the fuel points at the supermarket and if I use those it doesn't matter how much gas I get.  They are good for up to 30 gallons on one fill up.  I can't spread the 30 gallons over multiple times.

Gas is about $3.90 around here.. I usually fill it when I take a trip to my parens and usually put in about $30 at a time which gives me little more than half a tank.

I will be putting more in once I move further from my job.. right now I work less than a mile and only drive about 4 miles a day! lol

I just got gas last night, funnily enough. Right now it's 3.83--but I use the Unleaded Plus and there's an extra charge for using credit instead of cash. I never carry cash anymore so...eh. I fill up about once a month, more often during school and when I'm actually being social. I live within 5 miles of most shopping needs so I just don't have the need to travel very far most of the time. In the summer I fill up when I hit a quarter tank and just fill back to full, or close to it. In the winter I don't like to go much below a half tank. Much lower than a quarter and my car gets grumpy so I very rarely let it go to empty or near empty.

We have a diesel that isn't used every day, so it only gets filled every 3 or 4 months. DH usually does that, and the last time I did was about 5 years ago. :lol3:

Diesel is currently €1.30 per liter, so about $6.73 a gallon. Gasoline is €1.54 per liter today, so $7.94 a gallon.

The first time we were stationed in Germany, we lived "on the economy" not in government housing.  We lived in a large apartment building and I remember a lot of Germans only used their car on the weekends.  They used mass transit during the week.  We didn't have to pay the high gas prices because we were exempt from the German taxes but I remember gas was very expensive.

The mass transit system is very good here; I commute by train, and DH works close enough to go by bike, so we don't even need a second car, which is pretty much a necessity in the U.S.. I just got back from visiting my family in the U.S., and there was literally almost nothing within walking distance. Here we have two supermarkets just a 5-minute walk from the house. Another factor here is the high population density. The city I work in has traffic on a par with that in L.A., so it's much less nerve-wracking to use mass transit.
Stuttgart faces worst traffic jams in Germany
Drivers in the southwestern city of Stuttgart have to contend with the worst traffic congestion in Germany and face delays comparable to the clogged streets of Los Angeles, according to a new study.

Working off data provided by navigation system maker TomTom, the study found the Swabian metropolis ranks eighth worldwide in the list of cities most plagued by heavy traffic.

The commuters in Stuttgart are on the road 33 percent longer on average compared to driving in gridlock-free traffic, the study found. This puts Stuttgart, which is home to carmakers Mercedes and Porsche, on par with cities like Los Angeles, Paris, Sydney and Rome on the traffic jam scale.

Drive an ancient Volvo (they never die) and fill up each time because I'd rather look at the road than the gas gauge. I fill the tank about every 10 days unless I'm driving my kid around which eats gas like crazy and I'm lucky to get a week's worth of driving out of  a tank. The car has a small tank relative to today's models. Used to be able to fill the tank for just under $40 CDN. Now it will be at least $50. Gas is $1.45 a litre, so that's about $5.50 US gallon. Every third fill-up, I have to put premium in the tank. Dreading the next fill-up.

I fill up whenever I go to get petrol.

working out the conversions of litres to gallons and currency feels like it will explode my brain at the moment, but I know that we are at least 30% more expensive than the States, 60% less than the UK, and about the same for Japan
( I found this great site that compares prices )
