Hi Folks,

We are rescuers and have 11 permanent inside cats.  Patchie has FIV positive status and has been healthy (now 7) till now and now he is confirmed to have early stage renal failure.  I have deep experience with renal failure and did subQ fluids for 4 years for our late Sarah cat.  I also have experience with FIV.

However, I do welcome any site that might give me ideas and guidance on FIV+ cats and how to care for them, especially if they have renal failure.

I am a very very experienced cat caretaker and have dealt with many sick cats over the years.  Just to say that so you know what I am "about".  Thanks.

First, thank you for your work with rescued cats.
I don't have any personal experience with FIV cats, although the cat sanctuary where I volunteer has one room just for FIV cats (and one for just FeLK cats).
But here's hoping ldg ldg will see this post; she has a lot of experience with FIV cats.

Martha (Hi, it's Laurie! :wavey: ), are you familiar with http://www.fivtherapy.com?

There is a GREAT yahoo group run by the author of the site, https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/fiv-healthscience/info

I expect there are members there with experience.

That said, I would think that you treat the CKD the same way you do with non-FIV+ cats. All of the things that will benefit a cat with CKD will benefit an FIV+ cat with CKD.

But to slow the progression of the retrovirus, a completely different subject, there are any number of things that can be done. I documented what I'm doing for Chumley, here:

http://www.thecatsite.com/t/259351/how-i-am-treating-chumleys-fiv

And the stuff I chose is based on this section of the FIVtherapy website: http://www.fivtherapy.com/bdltimetherapy.htm#Asymptomatic Phase

I picked and chose from Bud's therapy based on the discussion of each supplement.
