My 5 month old kitten has the worst smelling poop of any cat I've ever known in my life. What is the best food (dry or canned preferred as opposed to raw) for super stinky poops? I've been feeding him Blue Wilderness kitten, which certainly seems to make things worse for him.

First, has he been dewormed? Parasites can cause stinky poops.

In general, the less fillers a food has, the less smelly the poop is. That's why raw food often results in less waste with very little smell because it's so bioavailable. After raw, a good canned food of mostly meat (no grains, starchy vegetables, fruits, etc.) is the next best thing.

I saw your other thread, too, MeowFrau, and noticed that you're feeding Blue Buffalo Wilderness dry kitten food... that food is grain-free but it does have peas as well as potato in three forms: starch, protein, and potato. As vball91 mentioned, the starchy stuff can cause problems. I had to cut all the potato foods out of our cats' rotation because potato seems to make one of them vomit. Potato, unfortunately, has gotten to be a very common filler in cat food.

Our cats eat a combination of raw and canned foods and I can't believe how little the litter box smells. And even how little it smells if one of them poops while I'm scooping! (One of them loves to demonstrate...
) I only feed them grain-free, potato-free, low-carb foods: the food charts on Catinfo.org are a good start for finding canned foods that are high-protein and low-carb. I'm convinced that combination is what's been keeping our cats stomachs happy ever since I weaned them off dry food.

Also, if you're specifically looking for kitten food, our cats love Wellness Core kitten food. It does have a little fish but it's high-calorie, low-carb, and they love it so much I sometimes buy it for them as an occasional treat even they're now over a year old. In any case, good luck and just ask if you have questions about other foods!
