We are getting a 4 month old "Japanese Bobtail" in a couple of weeks. She will come having had all shots + spaying (with documentation of such work). I like the breeder very much and she has an excellent reputation. Having said all of this is there any need to take the kitten soon after to the vet for a "check up"?

Hi @21Rouge and welcome to TCS.

I would take the kitten to a vet soon, just to get a baseline exam, but it doesnt have to be immediately.  Also, anytime cats come from a multi cat environment they are at risk to pick up GI parasites and upper respiratories.  If the kitten doesn't come microchipped, then you could do this at the vet as well.

I presume the breeder tests for FIV/FeLV?  Also is there a written policy on what if anything the breeder will cover medically/

Thanks Stephen for the reply. Good idea about baseline figures. (She does come chipped)
