My cat started labour last night and had two kittens. The last one was born 3 hours ago. She has more kittens left to give birth to. My vet has given me an hour and a half before I have to go in a get an xray and pay for god knows what else. Have any ideas?

Cats can pause in the labor!   Often it is nothing especially dangerous.   If she seems OK, no troubles, happy with her kittens - you dont need to worry too much.  Do observe closely of course, but you can wait for the others.

If she seems to be in troubles, panting, higher temp, unfruitful labor, bleedings with fresh blood (some red colored discharges are no problem) anything - contact your vet.   Especielly unfruitful long labor with the following kittens is serious.  The first kitten may take some time.

Also, cats manage  a little too long pregnancy better than humans.  While premature delivery is dangerous for the kittens.

Thus.  If the kittens perhaps were began in different matings, its fully possible they are began several days apart.   So some may be born earlier, and the others - a day or two later  - and thus, they to will be fullborne, not premature.

That is why a cesarean may be dangerous: mom will be OK, sure.  But the kittens, if premature, will have difficulties...

So, my advice here, if she is OK no troubles -  you can wait and see.

If  she IS in any difficulties you or the vet can  notice - let him help her, with cesarean or with injection of hormones.

Good luck!   *vibes!*

Some links, you will perhaps have use of them:

We have a good collection of articles in the Cat Health section which you can access by scrolling up to the brown bar, clicking on Articles, and then choosing the Cat Health section and scrolling through the choices.  To make this super easy for you, I am copying the links regarding birth, delivery and newborns for you here.  After reading this information, let us know if you have any more questions.  And good luck with your approaching new arrivals.

OK so everything was going great. She started stage 1 again but then we had a tornado warning so I took her downstairs with us. I think that stopped the labour. Is that safe? How can I make her feel safe enough to start it again? Could the unborn kittens become distressed? How will I know? Ahhhh so many questions!

Difficult to say.  But cats do have the ability to stop up the labor some time, if they are stressed, if the situation isnt proper.    Try to talk sweetly and reasurring.  Be sure YOU dont sound afraid or stressed. Nor any other else nearby...   Have a quiet, dark corner for her.   You may play soft, relaxing music. Classical or more modern.    A Feliway spray or diffuser would be swell, but with tornado warnings I presume you cant go out to pet shops...  Perhaps some cat owning neighbour has??

Good luck!

How is she doing? If she hasn't had them at this point, I would be contacting the vet for sure.

She hasn't had the babies yet. I called my vet but they want to give her an xray and then either induce/c-section but they want the money upfront. I asked her about this when we went for her pregnancy check up a month ago and she told me not to worry cuz "these things Dont happen often" and of course its happening to me. She has a little bleeding. I'm freaking out. If my cat dies its going to be my fault and I can't do anything until I get paid on Friday. I'm just praying that something good happens

Are they refusing to even look at her unless you pay up front? Can you use a credit card or borrow money from someone until you get paid? Or try another vet?

I've called every vet in my area. The assessment alone is $100. I found one that would let me pay the $100 to see her and then bill me the rest. We're taking her in the morning. Thank God. She's still purring, she's nursing, she's doing a lot of grooming down there. Is it possible that extra discharge would come out before the rest are born?

Yes, some discharge both before and after delivery are common.  As long it is not real blood, but  reddish water its OK.

As I understand it, she seems OK.  Although in that situation you (and me) want of course a check up by a good vet and discussion on next step

Ideally it shouldnt be a problem...   IN your situation its more complicated...

Holding thumbs!    *vibes!*

Took her to the vet today. The vet said she doesn't have a fever and she didn't feel a kitten lodged in her canal. I brought up the fact that I can still feel kicking... She said its gas. Is that even possible? She didn't even think my cat was pregnant the first time I took her in. I'm doubting her judgement right now. She told me we could get an xray tomorrow if I really wanted to. I'm not sure whether or not to go with my instincts or her advice. But these are the 2 we have now

Adorable babies! It may be those were all the kittens. It's normal for momcat to have some discharge and milder contractions for a while after giving birth, as the uterus gradually shrinks down to normal. Hopefully everything is fine.

Wait.  So what it cooks down into, is, the vet thinks her delivery several days ago was the whole and she is done?   Your thinking she has some left is natural swelling and some gases?   And as she seems healthy, you really dont need to do anything extra - but if you want to be 100% sure she can make the X-ray?

This would solve all problems, and also explain why she isnt continuing with the rests of the births...    A very convenient outcome -  IF you think the vets palpation and analysis were any good.

You can even spare yourself this X-ray, if you dont have the money...                    @kaylielove

I cant advise you much,  you are there and the pilot on this flight.  But if it so, it would solve everything.  (and it does sounds plausible).

Do you have possibility for an second opinion from another vet?    It should be cheaper than X-ray anyway...

Yea I'm going to get the xray tomorrow. After the two kittens were born I felt her stomach and I could feel one against her tummy and I'm not a vet but I'm almost 100% sure that organs Dont move around. The vets making me feel like I'm crazy lol but I know what I'm feeling. She's walking around my house now meowing and panting again. Im just gonna take her in again tomorrow and get the xray to know what's going on. The only other vet in my town told me she wasn't pregnant when I first suspected she was sooo I'm not taking her there again. I just want this to be over

She won't stop meowing and panting. Like now its getting irritating. I know I should be more sympathic but if she's not pregnant like the vet says, why hasn't she gone back to being normal?

They can meow for much, and often without apparent reason.  At least, my resident boys do.

But if it is cominbed with panting?, panting is usuall alarming unless its very hot...  You are going to the X-ray anywayt today, yes?

Tell this with panting and meowing to the vet.

*vibes!*
