My kitten goes nuts for those go-cat fur mouse toys.

She'd chewed down the mouse pretty well and loved to play tug of war.  Well tonight the pin popped out of the mouse and she swallowed what was left of it.  I tore apart a whole one (I had bought a few spares) and there's a piece of string inside.  There wasn't a lot of fur left on the string.  Now what - just watch and wait?

Yes, watch and wait for it to pass. It likely will if it's small.

The string is not a worry if it is a mere inch or two in length, even 3 is probably okay.

It's the long strings that wrap around and bind that are the problem.

I know, but has worrying in the past ever helped the situation? Nope. :)

Tell me the size we're talking here, like use something I will know, half the head of a toothbrush size, a thumbnail, etc.

Well, I'd suggest a trip to the vet for an x-ray.  I have one that goes ape for those mouse toys and because of that, I only use the feathers now.

I would say it was about a inch, inch and a half.    Had fake fur glued onto the string, I would say maybe the width of a pencil around not even.  It looks like this when it's new, but the cats chew of the fur (clck on the pics on the side for several views:

She pooped this afternoon, sounded gassy and tonight would not finish her dinner.  I wasn't really worried until now when she wouldn't eat.    It was so small I don't know if they'd even be able to see anything with an xray.

Not wanting to eat and unable to poop are the signs to look for with a blockage along with lethargy and possibly vomiting.

Thanks for the reply, she did eat but not as robustly as usual.  I hate this waiting game.  Word to the wise - I've been obsessive about kitten proofing the house and the things I've had problems with are things that don't immediately strike you as dangerous.  There's no safety regs for pet toy manufacturers.   I don't mind taking her to the emergency vet, but last time they really couldn't do anything.   Then I think, well, the only time I don't err on the side of caution.....

She just had very watery diarrhea, not a lot, :(.  I still am surprised the damn thing is making her sick.  I thought it just would've passed through her system.

You need to take your kitty to the vet.

If it is still in the stomach then it may be possible to retrieve it with an endscope.
It is much cheaper than surgery.

If your cat refuses to eat or vomits you have a problem.
