My Cousin's Cat

Normally, I wouldn't post somebody else's pet lose here, but it was just too sad

I was babysitting my little cousin, and his cat had recently died of cancer. We were playing a board game, and I looked up at the clock and said "Oh, look, it's 11:11. Make a wish."

After he made his wish, I asked him what he wished for. He said, "I wish Smokey was still here."

It broke my heart. I very carefully explained to him how happy Smokey is now, and that he's not in pain anymore and he's still watching us all the time.

But seriously... Brokenhearted!

I don't know what else to say or do...

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss! Our family lost our cat, Willy, very unexpectedly last Christmas. Our kids (5 and 7) still tell us that they miss him out of the blue. Sadly, a pet's death is often the first time that children experience the loss of a loved one. Let him talk if he wants and let him know that it's ok to be sad. Poor guy :-(

Yes, I feel bad for him I don't think he wants to talk, because he hasn't said a peep about it since. Although it can never heal it completely, I know time will help his heart

Luckily, he's got two other cats and two dogs to keep him company in the meantime

Bless that little heart for realizing the loss of that special cat in his heart and using his wish to try to make it better! I know at times the pain comes crashing back, but it helps to have someone there to support you, and I'm glad you had each other. Smokey will be alive forever in your hearts, try to remember the good times and not dwell on the bad. You might let him know of the Rainbow Bridge, I know I cling to the hope of it. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers, bless you both for loving so much. RIP sweet Smokey, you were greatly loved!

It's so difficult to grasp the concept of death and deal with it at a young age. In time he'll learn that Smokey lives on in his heart.
