I have a 3 year old cat named Cindy, she went into labor yesterday morning and safely delivered 2 healthy kittens, however the 3rd kitten proved difficult and she was in labor for a couple hours. Eventually she delivered but it was still born. I thought that was the last of it. She's in good spirits today and is eating and acting normally but her stomach is still swollen and hard and she seems a bit uncomfortable. Are there more kittens? I can't really see a lot of movement. Should I be worried??

Did she pass a placenta with the last kitten that was stillborn?  I would suggest taking her to the vet for a post-partum check up in the morning.  Certainly better to be safe than sorry, just bring mama and kittens together in the same carrier.

In the meantime, here is a link to an article dealing with post-birth complications in cats.

The situation, if there is one more or just some swellings, isnt unusual.   Most often it is natural swellings.  Sometimimes is onel left.

They CAN have pauses....

The answer is the same in both cases; you observe.  Is she is contend, no visible troubles, happy with her kittens, you watch but dont need to worry.

If she is in visible trouble, panting, prolonged labour, fever, anything - you contact your vet, and if necessary, are ready to rush her in...

As said, they can pause, and deliver healthy, alive kittens  even two days later...

One tip - if a kitten is stillborn but apparently whole and not premature, you can sometimes perk him into life by warming up and massaging...

Good luck!   @RoxiiJA

ps.  If you are still unsure and dont read off the situation clearly as comforting and everything OK, do contact your vet.  They know waht follow up questins to give.

I didn't see her pass the placenta, that's why I'm so worried. I've been checking on her and she's keeping close to her nesting area and she seems really tired.

As @StefanZ  suggested, often times when a baby is in the birth canal but undelivered soon, it will die. If it died very shortly before it was delivered, sometimes you can revive the baby by vigorously rubbing and massaging, clearing out nose and mouth with a suction syringe, and even try swinging the baby downward between your hands, of course holding baby snugly especially around the head/neck areas.

I just recently had to revive a baby, she just took too long delivering, it was number 6 of 7 she had. Appeared dead, but worked on him a few minutes and he came around, and was just as fine and big as the others.

She may very well have more to come, usually litters on average are more than 3, but not always.

Just watch her, be sure she is not in any distress, she may be swelled, she may have more.
