Today I'm thinking about music. I've seen several live performances, between music festivals and concerts. Most recently, my best friend bought tickets to the Macklemore & Ryan Lewis concert here in November. That was amusing and a lot of fun. My favorite concerts were Billy Joel. The first time I saw him, I was 16. Then I saw him again about ten years later for the Face to Face tour with Elton John. That concert was amazing. I grew up listening to them. My mom was especially fond of Elton John. What a performer he is. They are both amazing, though. Joel does storytelling between songs. It makes for a great experience.

Other bands/performers I've seen are John Mayer, Maroon 5, Stabbing Westward, Vertical Horizon, Eve 6, Edwin McCain... others that I can't remember the name anymore. Most were at festivals I went to in high school. The band I really want to see perform is Tool. I'm a big fan and their concerts are known to be mindblowing. So what about you?

What bands/performers have you seen live? Which were your favorite? Who have you not seen that you REALLY want to?

oh Canada~
I've been to a music festival 3 times, and the lineup is different every year so I really can't name all the ones I've seen live. The ones that actually stand out in memory from them would have to be Dan Mangan, Fred Penner (lol, he's from an old kid's show, so all the 30 years+ crowd at the festival were singing along with him and dancing with their toddlers and kids), and Mother Mother.

I've also seen Jay Chou live, but I think that's it when it comes to musicians. I'm bigger into seeing comedians, and someone who does comedy and music fantastically is Bill Bailey, but he's never in Canada! Would love to see Springsteen, especially since he's getting old, and I've read he's got an amazing stage presence, as well as Steve Perry. I don't think I'd be able to afford them though.

I've tried to suppress it, but I kind of want to see Girls' Generation live too, but I also doubt I'd be able to afford them... and who wants a seat in the nosebleed section where the artists are just specks? Go big or go home! Unless you're cheap like me. Then just stay home and wait for someone to upload fancams and DVD rips.

I guess my favorite would be Ozzfest for all the different talents and energy.  The group I wish I could have seen?  Pink Floyd.

Hedley  - 2008
Lady Gaga - 2009
Celtic Thunder - 2009

Favourites would be the Lady Gaga and Celtic Thunder concerts.

As one can tell though, it has been awhile since I went to a concert! I am not sure who I would want to see nowadays that I haven't seen yet. Nightwish, Apocalyptica, maybe Passenger, are some nice options. Otherwise, I'm more interested in seeing a ballet, or a good opera

When I was in college I once saved my concert tickets for 12 months and then counted them and there were 50, lol!

That was a while ago... there's no way I can remember them all, but the ones that really stand out were my first concert, the Rolling Stones' Tour of the Americas,  and then I saw them 2 more times, once with my sister. I saw Queen (with Freddie) 4 times, also Elvis, Sex Pistols, Ministry. I partied backstage after the concerts with the B-52's, Blondie, Talking Heads, The Ramones... I remember the Red Hot Chili Peppers performed the entire concert nude - it was their "sock" tour, I thought the police were going to come raid the place!

I saw Patti Smith after her concert in Houston, we both stopped for some fast food - she was at the counter so I went up and told her how I loved her music and her concert, and she thanked me and we both ordered burritos. My friends and I showed up for The Who concert at 11:00pm, thinking they would play after the warmup band, but they started at 8:00 sharp and we missed the whole concert. The first time I left my newborn baby (with her dad) was to see Nick Cave in Boston.

Aerosmith
 (4)

Grand Funk

Joe Walsh

Heart

Santana

Jethro Tull (2)

ZZ Top (2)

Doobie Brothers

REO Speedwagon (3) I used to be a big REO fan

TSO

Rick and I know there are other concerts we've been to, but we just can't remember them all. We used to be big concert fans. Years and years ago, Bucknell University would host some rock concerts and we would go to them. We would go to Harrisburg, to Hershey and to Philadelphia to the Spectrum. More recently, we've gone to Big Flats in New York to see some concerts, to PennState and to the Poconos.

We would love to see AC/DC and I'm a huge Mark Knopfler fan now.

These days the price of a concert ticket is ridiculous. AC/DC was over in the Poconos a couple of years ago, but the tickets were $100 each and I wouldn't pay it. I'm so sorry now that we didn't go.

Wow... y'all have seen some great bands/performers. My mom saw Elvis twice. My sister has seen Aerosmith. I would have liked to see Foreigner and some of the hair metal bands.

Alice Cooper in 1975? (Suzi Quatro opened)

Paul McCartney (x2 1976 & 2002)

Donovan (he played his cosmic wheels guitar)

Bruce Cockburn

Valdi

Gord Lightfoot (x2)

Kate and Anna McGarrigle (+ family)

Fairport Convention

Kate Rusby (and a lot of other Celtic folk singers)

Lorena McKennitt

SARS Concert for Toronto - Rush - The Guess Who - Justin Timberlake (the crowd booed, it wasn't his kind of audience) - Sam Roberts Band - Tea Party - Rolling Stones - AC/DC (and a few more I can't remember offhand). Rush, the Stones, and AC/DC went all out.

Robert Plant (thought my son should see at least a part of Led Zepp)

Bob Dylan

Foo Fighters (acoustic opening for Dylan)

Buddy Guy

Eric Clapton

Who I really, really, really would like to see is Joni Mitchell.

The only bands/performers that I have seen live are Cheech and Chong, and Jesus Christ Superstar.  Both in Honolulu in 1972. I'm not really a social person and thousands of screaming fans would drive me batty.

Oh gosh. I spent most of my teenage years and 20's seeing live music. I've been to literally hundreds of shows. Topping the list would be the Grateful Dead (32 times) or Phish (40+ times, including the Clifford Ball and NYE 95). I followed both for a total of about 3 years.
Other notables:
Michael Jackson (my first concert, I was 8 and my Mom took me)

The Who, U2, the Stones, Robert Plant 2-3 times and backstage, Sting 3 times, Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton twice, REM, the Violent Femmes with the Pogues, James Brown, Little Feat, Tom Petty, Prince, Bad Brains...that's off the top of my head.
Basically, I have been lucky to see any band I want, with 2 exceptions : Rage Against the Machine and the Beastie Boys (I had tickets for the first Lollapalooza at Lake Fairfax, but was forced to go to a family wedding instead. It has been 20 years and I still haven't forgiven my Mom, lol!) I have even seen bands I don't much care for, like Metallica, Guns N Roses, and Madonna.

I've been to dozens of festivals and too many small venue shows to count. I've seen many bluegrass musicians, like the Tony Rice Unit, the David Grisman Quintet, Bela Fleck, Tony Trishka, plus tons of jambands, like Widespread Panic, Galactic, and MMW in small venues. I saw the first HORDE tour and we used to go see the Dave Matthews Band before they were famous. I've also seen a lot of jazz and funk musicians.

When I was a teenager, we used to camp out for tickets, which was almost as much fun as the concerts. I had mail order for Phish, though.

We had a chance to see Journey at PennState, but Steve Perry was no longer with them, so we didn't bother. Skynerd, too, but without Van Sant, I didn't want to.

I think that might be an issue with AC/DC, too. With Malcolm Young being so ill, there are rumors about whether the band is even going to do a farewell tour. If they do, we'll be there.

Rick has always wanted to see the Outlaws.....he's a big fan of their songs.

same with Heaven & Hell. i went with my girlfriend in august and saw them and the following May Dio passed away

i forgot to add Eric Clapton, Molly Hatchett, Coheed and Cambria and Fleetwood Mac

These days, there are so many scalpers online buying tickets when they first become available that tickets sell out in minutes. Unless you are fortunate to get through the system, you're out of luck. Had a fairly decent place in line and in person to buy Elton John tickets, sold out way before I got to the ticket desk. Standing inline doesn't guarantee anymore. I've stopped trying to get tickets for anything. For the price of a ticket, I could order the band's entire back catalogue.

That's the other reason I never went to concerts.
No kidding, tickets are way too expensive these days. Way back when I was young, I had quite a few musician / club owner / bouncer friends and rarely had to pay for a concert ticket. I also didn't drink alcohol instead only water, so I spent many nights out without spending anything except for the gas to drive there. I was a poor college student working and paying my own way through school. But I also had a lot of fun.

I would love to have seen Gordon Lightfoot back in the 70's when I fell in love with his music, and still love it now.  The McGarrigle sisters and Fairport Conventions too.  Had a chance to go see AC/DC just before Bon Scott died but was a bit boring and decided I valued my eardrums.
Now Joni Mitchell I did go to see in the early 80s.

    Speechless....

In the 70's saw some really 'different' stuff, like Cliff Richard on a gospel tour, The Dubliners (Irish folk) and The Corries (Scottish folk).  You'd never have known what I was in to was pretty much anything else!

I did manage to catch:

John Ottway with Wild Willie Barrett,

Weather Report (with Jaco Pastorius 1980)

Crosby Stills and Nash (no Young),

Roy Harper,

Sinead O'Connor,

Simple Minds,

David Bowie

Orshestral Manouevers in the Dark,

Horse,

Eddie Reader

John Martin,

Patti Smith, poetry reading and singing with Philip Glas accompanying,

Robbie Williams,

Roachford,

Preston Reed (guitarist)

Mostly less well known artists and smaller venues as I really hate crowds.  I think Crosby Stills and Nash, Bowie and Robbie Williams were the only 3 larger concerts I went to.

My big miss was not going to see U2 in what I think might have been their first gig in London back in 1980?  I had to catch a train and get back to college for an exam I needed to pass to go on to the next year at college and if I'd stayed for the gig that would have been my potential graduation out the window.  Probably did the right thing....

Haven't been to many concerts, not necessarily cuz of the size of crowds they draw, but more so the type of crowds they draw. But have seen Bruce & E Street, Elton John, and Journey. Of course for me, music begins and ends  with Springsteen--  just sayin'.  And I agree, these concert prices hve gone ballistic. DS just paid a hundred and a half to see a Pink Floyd cover band at Red Rocks.
