Do NOT buy "Evolution Diet" food! It's 100% VEGAN for cats :(

A friend of mine recently brought my attention to this horrible brand on the market called "Evolution Diet" - http://www.evolutiondietstore.com/product.sc?productId=3&categoryId=27   They sell food for cats, dogs, and even ferrets, which we all know are carnivores! Cats and ferrets especially are "obligate carnivores" so a diet like this one is exceptionally dangerous to them.

If you look at the ingredient list on the foods, it's all grains, corn, soy and vegetables, which in large amounts is terrible for cats as most of us well know! I did write to the company (as did my friend) about the importance of proper nutrition for obligate carnivores, but this is the exact response I received, absolutely awful and completely unprofessional:

"Evolution Diet
Do me a favor and kill yourself you ugly disgusting piece of Animal Killing Scum.  You are the Filth of the Planet.  Drop Dead.  Lay off You are not only Aniaml Killing Scum, you are harassing our ethical Co. you piece of living ****.  Die!"

I normally have nothing against people who choose to be vegans/vegetarians themselves, but forcing their own ideals on pets, whose bodies just can't handle this kind of diet, is just plain wrong! People like this should just own rabbits or guinea pigs if they want a vegetarian pet. I was really upset to see this, knowing there's probably lots of animals out there having to survive on this "diet" just because of their owner's extremes. :(

After getting that email, I wrote a very negative review on their Facebook page, as did a few others from a ferret group I'm also a part of

Anyway, just thought I should bring this to attention! ..Please don't feed your carnivorous kitties a vegan diet!

Complete disregard for nutritional requirements for animals aside, what kind of customer service is that? ZERO civility to even try and create a defense, just mistyped, profane insults? "Animal killing scum"... we'll see how many animals die trying to eat that "diet". Completely abhorrent company.

ETA; wow... http://www.vegguide.org/entry/648/reviews

Every so often a company tries to do this and there are the more 'militant' vegans who insist it can be done.  I remember Paul McCartney's first wife was a vegan and she got all of her animals but her cats on a vegan diet.  She looked at it as a failure on her part but she realized it's not something that can be done.

That's a complete lack of customer service, if you ask me!   I think they need a LOT more negative reviews on that link you posted. I tried to leave a review myself but it wouldn't let me without signing up to that site, which I did not want to since I don't really want my name affiliated with vegan stuff. Something needs to be done to get them out of business though, seriously!

He is one of the militant vegan, animal rights people.  The same mentality as the ones who terrorize people by throwing paint on their fur coat on the street.  The thing I can't understand about that is fake furs have gotten very good, how do they know for sure that it's real fur.

These kinds of people are so insufferable! They can't hear anything over the sound of them being right, even though they never are. And it has to be more embarrassing for the rational people around them who see what they say and do, and realize how ridiculous it is. I'd love to hear what a reformed militant vegan has to say about their previous actions... must be such a humbling thing to think back on. There are plenty of "reformed vegans/vegetarians" who write about their experiences and reasoning, but I don't think any were as over the top as the people who'd force their carnivores to eat pasta.

My thoughts exactly. And as one of those people who wears real fur on the streets I am often on the lookout for them, although I still do not let their actions control who I am or what I choose to wear or do. Because wearing fur is a personal choice, just like being vegan is a personal choice. I have always been of the belief that people should just respect each other's differences and move on.  You can't change somebody's viewpoints just because you disagree with them, and you surely can't just change an animal's natural diet just because you don't like how it's biologically designed to eat meat!

That said, there is obviously no way we can get the owners of this company to "reform" their own views, but we can possibly do something to get the business itself out of production, for the protection of the pets they are putting at risk.

The stupidity of some members of the Human Race never cease to amaze me.  And they compound it by being virulently stupid.

I just finished sending in a report to the Better Business Bureau about them. Hopefully something will come of this!

I would also show the response to an attorney. That is base libel if ever I have seen it. It almost comes under the "inciting to suicide" laws in your state and the state the response came from.

That response is just outrageous. :wife: I don't know what I'd want to do about it, because suing costs money. But WOW is that insane!

On a different note... Of course, the Royal Canin Veterinary hypoallergenic HP dry diet is in essence vegetarian. Not vegan, because it does contain animal fat. But not a micron of animal-based protein.

The Royal Canin veterinary hypoallergenic HP dry ingredients:

Brewers rice, hydrolyzed soy protein, chicken fat, natural flavors, powdered cel¬lulose, vegetable oil, dried beet pulp, monocalcium phosphate, fish oil, potassium chloride, calcium sulfate, calcium carbonate, fructooligosaccharides, sodium silico aluminate, salt, taurine, vitamins [DL-alpha tocopherol acetate (source of vitamin E), inositol, niacin supplement, L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate (source of vitamin C), D-calcium pantothenate, biotin, pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6), riboflavin supplement (vitamin B2), thiamine mononitrate (vitamin B1), vitamin A acetate, folic acid, vitamin B12 supplement, vitamin D3 supplement], choline chloride, DL-methionine, marigold extract (Tagetes erecta L.), trace minerals [zinc protein¬ate, zinc oxide, ferrous sulfate, manganese proteinate, copper proteinate, copper sulfate, manganous oxide, calcium iodate, sodium selenite], rosemary extract, preserved with natural mixed tocopherols and citric acid.

I expect they'd provide a much different response to inquiries. ;)

I prefer real leather for my shoes, rather than synthetic material. I have a pair of leather Capezios that I wear for contra dancing that I bought back in 2007 that are still in great condition - the only part that shows a 'beating" are the soles. A year after I bought those, I bought a cheaper pair for back-up that were made out of synthetic leather - the heel seams started ripping out after only about a year and a half. Back to the Capezios, even though they cost $45 a pair.

I don't really know the law that well but could those comments be considered a death threat? You could charge him or her for that. These people are what gie vegans a bad name.

No, it cannot be considered a death threat. As I said in my previous post, it could fall under 'incitement to suicide'

Ugh... that is utterly disgusting. People like this make me sick, they shouldn't be allowed anywhere near animals. If a human chooses to be vegan themselves, fine - but don't force that kind of diet onto a carnivorous animal! That's outright animal abuse, and it makes me furious. People who try to make cats go 'vegan' should be punished under animal abuse laws.

I myself don't eat red meat, but I happily buy red meat for all my animals. Because that's what giving them adequate care calls for, it's as simple as that. In my opinion, taking good care of the animal you have promised to look after - that's the most moral choice in the situation, regardless of how you feel about eating meat yourself.
