Socks is an adopted rescue cat that is approximately 6 years old.  He is loving, gentle and a perfect companion.  Upon bringing him in for a check up this week, Socks was diagnosed with Acute Renal Failure with BUN levels of 165 (normal levels being 10-30 in a healthy cat) and creatine levels of 11.5 (healthy level being .3-2.1).

The doctors are calling him a miracle cat- he has been responding extraordinary well to treatment and they are highly optimistic about his recovery.

I am 24 years old living on my own and have no way to finance his medical bills which already are over two thousand dollars.  Any donations would be so greatly appreciated.  Socks has had such a hard life but is a complete trooper- I know he can get through this, we just need help.  I hate to ask for charity but I don't know what else to do.  Thank you and God Bless.

From the Mod Team Regarding Pleas for money:

Cats are a huge responsibility. Anyone who thinks otherwise, should not have one in their life. They are dependent on us for everything from providing a place to eat, to also providing vet care.

Anyone who has cats knows that they can and do get ill. Your best defense is to plan for that to happen before it does, and store monies away in preparation.

If you read about a plight of an animal on the internet and your heart is drawn to help. Check out the story thoroughly. Google the vet's name or call Directory Assistance in the city and be sure this is a legitimate claim.

Do not blindly send money into a paypal account no matter how heart-wrenching the story. Instead reach out to the member and ask for the vet's name and phone number, and arrange to send the money there for the specific needs of the cat in question.

If that information cannot be provided- you have your answer. Report the post to a moderator so that it can be removed for not being on the level.

Hi kmccambley !

Here are some of the things you can do:
  • Start by getting yourself up-to-speed on (even the very basics of) what Socks is dealing with....it starts right here: http://felinecrf.org/
  • Hook up with people who are already successfully managing their kidney cats' health....this page explains all (and, after a few sentences), gives you the group's link: http://felinecrf.org/tanyas_support_group.htm    (they'll also offer ways to economize on the usual costs!)
And.......keep us posted !
