Hi everyone,

I joined today in the hope of receiving some direction and advice for my kitty, Ziggy.  MY kitty fell from the sofa ( maybe  2 feet,), a week ago and immediately  I noticed him dragging his left leg.  I watched him for an hour and noted he was getting worse ao I took him to the vet  two hours later.  At that point, his other leg had started to falter, as well as his tail.  Xrays did not show any broken bones or fractures.  This was followed up by a CT scan, which also showed no damage to his spinal cord or disk, nor any internal damage.  He then  spent the night for observation.

The following evening I took Ziggy home and later that evening noticed he had saturated a pee pad with bloody urine.   So I followed up with the vet the next day, who added liquid Orbax, an antibiotic to address the thought of a urinary tract infection.

Now, here we are a week and a day later and Ziggy does not seem better.  I have learned to express the urine and it is still bloody, and to top it off, he appears to have an uppper respatory tract infection.  He has runny eyes and sounds congested when he breathes and is sneezing.

My vet stated its a wait and see situation, but it is killiing me.  Ziggy is on wet food and has eatien and drank water every day but one since this started.  He has only had one bowl movement, which was the size of my pinky.  I have an appt. for him to see a Vet next week who does accupuncture on animals, but just am very concerned about the blood in the urine.

Please anyone with a history of something similar, please share your insight and story.  Do I need to get another opinion.  Ziggy has been to one vet and a vet neruologist thus far.  They are both telling me, it is a wait and see issue.

Lastly, Ziggy is about 6 years old, I adopted him from a cat shelter 5 years ago and has never exhibited any health issues.

Thanks you all.

Doreen.

Up until he fell he was walking normal?  Never hesitating or off on jumps? Did he have blood work done?

Seems you have taken all the right steps.  I mainly would be concerned at the bloody urine and lack of poop. Accupuncture appointment is great!  Have you called to see if they can move it up or had any cancellations?

Also lysine supplement could really help.  Vets have their own aimed at cats or you can get powder from store. I had a cat fall off a 2 drawer dresser and not be able to move.  We could not look into it further and euthanized her.

Blood in urine in my experience means a bladder or kidney infection or both.  I would wonder what caused the fall.  I personally would not do acupuncture, but I WOULD, if there is a school of vet medicine near you, take my cat there, or to an emergency clinic for animals.

Thanks for the response, I did mange to get our appt. moved up to Fri morning.  Also, took Ziggy to vet this afternoon as I did not feel  I should wait on his respatory infection.    Ziggy got shot of convenia for his cold and is still on his other meds, he also got some fluids, so I am sure that is good.  We also came home with lusine treats, so thank you for your input.  Still concerned about the blood in his urine.  Guess, we will have to be practice some patience and prayer.  Thank you. i

If you have any other thoughts, please advise.  Big Hugs to you.

Thank you for input.    Decided to  go back to vet after I posted this because I was so concerned over his runny eyes and coughing. The closest vet school is over 10 hours away and I cannot swing it with work and other obligations.  The vet practicing accupucture also offers physical therapy and muscle stimulation, so I am going to give Ziggy that chance.  I can feel the nerves trembling under his rear legs and I really want to give him that opportuniy.  He was perfectly fine prior to all this, I think it was just a freak fall.

Ziggy also got a shot of antibiotics  this afternoon just to cover his respatory infection; and I hope between the  antibiotics shot and the oral antibiotics, he is feeling better soon.  Just have to feed him and love him and express  his urine and hope the blood clears up soon.  Thanks again and any other thoughts, please feel free to let me know.

Yes, indeed.  His urine should be analzyed, and, he needs to have his kidney value taken.  Also, lysine treats are not as effective, as the lysine in capsules which you can get at a Whole Foods or local coop.

He's eating, but has had only one bowel movement in a week. I would be concerned about the cat developing megacolon. If the nerves are not stimulating the colon, your cat will become backed up. Did this come up at the appointment?

I will discuss having his urine  analyzed  and kidney values taken with  the  new vet on Fri.   It just appears that we have one problem and then another pops up.  First, the fall, then  paralyzed hind legs  and tail.   Then  next day briings us to bloody urine, then another day passes and now its an upper respatory infection.  So much for him  to handle.

Will  make my way to  Whole Food for lysine capsules.  Hoe much can a cat tolerate and can it be mixed with cat food?  Thanks again.

Yes, I asked the neurologist about this and his response was that when they do a ct scan with contrast, it can sometimes cause constipation.  MInd you the Ct scan was on Thursday, so Ziggy has only had one bowel movement since then.  Granted his appetite has not been great,   there have been a couple of days where he only ate a table spoon of food.  Yesterday, no food, but today he ate  a couple of tablespoons of wet food and drank water.

I will address this question with the vet accupucturist on Fri morning.  I will also be following up with his initial vet, wiht a phone call on Fridays as well.

Seems he needs to be eating more.  I just went through cat not eating and found a calorie supplement from Petsmart for a day got him back on track of solid foods.  Cats can get very sick very fast if not eating enough.
