Yesterday afternoon I had to make one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make. I had to put my sweet baby girl to sleep. I know she is no longer suffering but it pains me every waking moment since it happened. I keep thinking back to when she was a kitten. She was the runt of the litter and she was scared of the world. She would be hiding when all the other kittens were trying to explore. We had already decided to take Ichabod and when I saw her I knew I had to take her too. I picked her up and she was shaking. She clinged to my shoulder with her claws holding on tight. It didn’t phase me. I just held her and told her “you don’t have to be scared anymore little one…. I am going to take you home and take care of you”

Sabbath (still with her feeding tube in) resting on the couch by Mommy

That is the same moment I thought about when I was nursing her these past few months. The around the clock syringe and tube feedings, measuring and administering her meds, cleaning up vomit, convincing her to eat, staying home with her to make sure she was not alone…. it all brought me back to that moment when I promised her I would be there for her. That I would take care of her.

Telling her goodbye I felt a harsh bit of guilt as if I let her down. Was there something else I could have done. Did I not do enough? Did she know how hard I tried and fought for her?

I just picture her sweet face looking up and meowing at me. Running to me when I would call her name. Turning her head towards me so I would kiss the top of it. Sitting in “her spot” on the couch next to me. Swatting bottle caps, Mickey’s caps and the tops of plastic spray bottles across the house. Catching flies in mid air (the never stood a chance in our house). Trying to spill my cup of water over when I would paint. Splashing her water bowl all over the kitchen for fun. Letting me use her as a pillow and purring the whole time while I did. Doing sneak attacks on Ichabod.

Everything reminds me of her. As hard as it is right now I will cherish those moments I had with her. She loved me on days I didn’t even love myself.

R.I.P. Sabbath “Sabby” Garcia. I miss you my sweet baby girl. May you no longer suffer as you cross the rainbow bridge. Mommy loves you. You will forever hold a special place in my heart. I will always be grateful to you and your unconditional love.

I am so sorry.  I have a real soft spot for the black kitties.  You did everything that you could and she knew that she was loved and cared for.

I am just devastated at reading this.
I'm so, so sorry @nicolefrank117. You took such good care of Sabbath and you gave her a wonderful, loving home. Your tribute brought tears to my eyes.

Rest in peace, sweet Sabbath.

Thank you so much to all of you. Your support here helped get Sabbath through some of her difficult times but it also helped her have those spurts of wellness that gave her some extra time to enjoy with me before we had to let her go. I miss her so terribly. I cried myself to sleep last night just picturing her face the last time I saw her.

Also if anyone knows of any unique custom erns and things please let me know. It cost us the last bit of what was on our Care Credit card to have her cremated and to get her ashes back. I want to get her something special.

Thank you for your kind words. It's funny that you should say that. I was actually rushed to the ER on Thursday evening. Guess who has pancreatitis and gallstones... this girl.

Oh no! Take care of yourself!

Sisters reunited. We received Sabbath's ashes this week as well as a paw print with her name on it. I took this picture when I showed Ichabod that her sister was home.
Aw, it is beautiful.

Just received this delivery today. It is from the vet's office. Gonna get them a nice thank you card.
That is SO nice of them!

It's crazy how Sabbath and I experienced so many of the same ailments.

After feeling the pain I did that brought me to the er cause of the pancreatitis I no longer have any question or regret of putting her down. I am so glad she does not have to feel like that anymore.

Sebastian has chronic pancreatitis (currently under control). I've read and heard that it is painful, but how would I know? You've just confirmed for me that it IS very painful! I'm so sorry. I hope you are feeling better soon. Sabbath wouldn't want you to be sick.

I have never had that much pain with my chest pain attacks before. It spread to my entire rib cage and then down my back. I was nauseated and dry heaving and couldn't breath. I even went into panic attack mode to the point my hands and feet were tingling from hyperventilation. It was aweful.

For those of you interested I have a GoFundMe account.. www.gofundme.com/nicolen

I'm so very sorry for your loss, I know we are never ready to say goodbye. I'm so happy Sabbath found you to take care of her, because you did you know, she had someone to love and cherish her, and to take her pain on as your own to let her rest in peace. We always second guess ourselves after, it is a part of the grieving process, but you did all you could and now you mourn for that beautiful little soul. Please take care of yourself and kiss  Ichabod for me, she needs comfort too. You are not alone, we are here to offer what comfort we can, please know I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. RIP beautiful Sabbath!

Awe. Thank you so much. This really does make me feel a lot better. I will tell you the nausea I am experiencing from this pancreatitis has opened up a whole new perspective with me and what Sabbath was going through. I am quite miserable and I now see why it was so hard for my baby to eat. Shoot I am not even allowed to eat. They got me on liquid only diet. Haven't eaten since Thursday's dinner before I went to the ER.
