and use our older but still usable cat tree (it is just really worn being used 14+ years) that is sitting outside. I am thinking of moving it behind a tree we have back there... Pepper loves that tree. Tree is far enough from the house for semi quiet (I wish the neighbors and the kids lost their voice box. Foul mother people.)

What do you feed them? We feed and water Pepper daily. Every single day, within an hour, her food has been over taken by Ants!  She does not want to come in and is looking really scraggly. IF we could get her in a cage, I'd get her to a vet. She hides under my van if she sees or hears us coming.
If we put the dried food in the tree would that keep it Ant FREE? Or how about wet food (it was wet food today... Peps hadn't gotten to yet. Water dish too, covered in Ants.  Soooo gross.  Dishes, cleaned, hadn't been out an hour!!
We have spiders too but you do not see them like Ants. Could be worse... could be a Scorpion! Or Spider!

Thoughts??  TIA!!
We would love to help if there are any out there (kittens/cats) but do not want it to be a total waste.

yeah i know how you feel. ants are all over the place here to. what we found that works is putting some cornmeal around the food if the ants eat it they blow up, yeah i know gross right.you can also use some Diatomaceous Earth (food grade). as for the cat i would set a humane cat  trap out there for her set some wet food in it and keep an eye on it because you wouldn't want her sitting in the cage for to long. then you could take her to the vet and get her cleaned up some :) you can set some food out there for the cats dry food or wet, just keep it fresh and feed them the same time every day. i use to feed a stray cat around our house. but haven't seen her around :(

well i hope this helped

We use a feeding station that is elevated off the ground 2-3" and never have problems with ants.  I have also placed the food up on bricks and the ants stay away.  I leave dry food out all day, but pick the wet food up as soon as it is gone.

Thank you, thank you! I am going to get cornmeal. See if it helps in general. Grosses me out. Makes not want to take the kids out.

We have ant problems this time of year too. We feed our colony cats on our deck. We use a patio table and we stop the ants using water. We place each leg of the table in an empty coffee can. We keep water in the can. We make sure that the table legs don't touch the sides of the can. We also make sure that the table doesn't touch against any surface from which ants can access the table top.

We just add water to the cans when we change the water for the cats. The ants can crawl up into the can but can't reach the table legs. It works for us!

I just use the moat system for the outside dry food bowl.  I put food in a bowl, then put the bowl in a pie plate and fill the pie plate with water.  The cats can reach the food but the ants cannot.

Another thing that works is using cinnamon in the pie plate, but water is cheaper.  Evidently ants are not fond of cinnamon.
