I really really want to try it to help my IBS, but i'm one of those worry wart type of people and I'm scared I'm going to have a reaction too it. My cats all get it in there water and they are fine
but I just worry!

So for those of you that use it.
How much do you use?
what do you put it in?
Are you had any negative side effects?

Thanks guys!!!

Val- I have IBS and I don't think that GSE will help that problem. I know I still have bouts of spasms. IBS is when you need to control the stress in your life and watch your diet, eat plenty of fiber and get on medication if your doctor thinks it is necessary. What has helped me the most is Cracklin Oat Bran, I eat a bowl of it dried every day and drink plenty of water.

http://www.cfsn.com/ibs.html

here is a link, it doesnt say much about gse, i'll look for a better one.
I think it is because they are starting to think IBS is related to an over growth on bactria in the intestants, and gse helps get rid of that kind of stuff.

GI doctors just don't know what to do for this
but if you suffer from IBS with constipation than
Zelnorm can help.

I have had 2 colonoscopies and the only thing they
game me was a prescription for Imodium {stronger
than the OTC kind} but it diden't help me either

I was told by 3 Doctors that im just gonna have
to "live with it" easy for them to say

Grapefruit Seed Extract: Grapefruit Seed Extract is a broad spectrum compound synthesized in a unique process from the seeds and pulp of grapefruits. Grapefruit Seed Extract supports a healthy digestive system by promoting growth of friendly intestinal bacteria.

I found that here

I was first diagnosed with IBS when I was 17 years old along with having a problem that causes "skrinkage of the bladder". So having those both, really killed me. I missed 40 days of school my last semester in high school!!! I hated that. I took some kind of small blue pill that I had to stick underneath my tongue before I ate meals. I had to go to therapy for life changing events because stress only made it worse. And, I had to also change my diet. I drank nothing but water, and ate rice and very bland foods up until last March (2002). It was horrible! I sometimes have the same problems, but I try to ignore it!! Now, with the bladder thing, I had to have surgery. I had it last March...they streatched my bladder to be "normal" size. After that...NO PROBLEMS WITH IBS! The frequent bladder infections and IBS went away...something tells me they were very related. But, if I can figure out what the blue pill was...I could tell you. BUT! It really did no good for me...the surgery really helped me overcome IBS!

maybe your bladder problems were stressing you out and that is what was causing your tummy problems?

Right here! :)
Sorry for this stupid question, but what is IBS? Maybe I will realize what it is when I hear what the letters stand for.

I too have IBS. . . . doesn't help that I have issues caused from past abdominal surgeries. . . (adhesions that cause partial small bowel obstructions from time to time). I can't eat a lot of fiber or I will end up in the ER with a naso-gastric tube. . . .

I once signed up for a study for IBS, but couldn't participate due to my past surgeries (part of the criteria).

The doctor told me that I could buy the "study" medication (can be purchased at GNC. . . it's called Calm Colon. I never did try it. . . . but might one of these days.

I find that too much coffee, chocolate, fruit juice, salad (I can eat some vegies in moderation). . . . causes me to run to the bathroom. . . as does stress.

I have IBS too and I control mine with Fiber Tabs. Works great for me and all I have to do is take a couple of tablets!

I'm going to check out the links you listed. Very interesting and good to know!
