My 11 year old male cat is just so skinny. He's been on Revelation for two years shich should kill any parasites vet. He poops and pees normally eats, no throwing up besides occasional hair ball, when resting prefers his head up slightly leaning on something. He was ferrel we adopted him at 6 weeks from vet's office. He's up to date with shots. Going to take stool for test but will prob be a waste of time and money since on Revelation? He's always been very skittish, shy anxious. Alwsys ran to basement with kids running around, visitirs...He began to loose a bit of weight not long after adopting our rescue dog (2 years ago) I thought if was due to his further anxiety. Now he is just bones but all vitals are good. If a thyroid issue I'm wondering if any meds will help him this far along. Not sure the vet will be able to get blood from him as he hides in the carrier in such fear not aggressive. I understand thyroid meds are harsh in liver and can cause havoc in their bodies. If prefer a holistic approach. He begs for wet good 3-4 x s a day. I understand he seems to be digesting rapidly. His poops smell awful!! I have felt under his neck I feel a tiny ball in the center but feels more like bone and it does not hurt him when I feel around under his jaw/neck. He can get grumpy thiugh quick to bite for play or whatnot (ex in adjusting curtains and wham) wasn't brought up with siblings so never got those social play skills like his kitty sister. Please help! Can anyone suggest a holistic remedy? I appreciate all comments thank you!!!

He needs to have a senior panel blood work done.  Be sure they test his thyroid levels.  Sounds like that might be the culprit, which is treatable with medication.

My cat was banished to the vet for boarding because my husband was hospitalized and she started pooping outside the box multiple times a day and it smelled awful. The vet examined her and said something was wrong with her thyroid--it was huge. Her level was 18.5 when it should have been 4. He advocated for radiation at a specialty clinic but that wasn't doable for me so he surgically removed it--he said it was the biggest thyroid he'd ever seen. It wasn't cancerous and she is now home--still poops outside the box but once a day not 10X. She has already gained a pound back! The surgery and drugs cost about $500 but was worth it as she is only 12 and is otherwise healthy.

Hello. My Mimi is too skinny too . She always has been skinny and nervous since she was a kitten . She is 11 now but she has ibd something irrelevant with this post . My vet recommended the paste for hairballs a tiny bit a day it increases appetite. I will follow this post it's interesting to see what the vet will tell you for your kitty.

Actually hyperthyroid can mimic ibd as in @palikakitty's cat in post #3 who was pooping 10x a day, and also if your cat is skinny and begging for food constantly, he should be allowed to eat all he will eat AND have his thyroid level checked ASAP!. Also check his blood sugar level which may be way too low.  Don't waste your money on fecal tests if he's been on Revolution all this time.   After removing the thyroid, you usually have to put them on thyroid replacement medication but that can be just fine the rest of their lives.

Hi everyone thank you for your posts! Yes he gets fed every time he begs which is 3-4 x a day :). He has dry food offered all day and night but last few weeks insisting on wet so fine with me just bought a bunch more of Evanger's organics from pet store. It's amazing how does not have much if an Oder like friskier or fancy feast. The pet store told me if he's had these symptoms for a while the thyroid meds will not work it's too late.... Anyone have good experience with natural/holistic hyperthyroidism meds? Thanks!

My cats begs too bit I feed her whenever she likes. If your kitty is skinny let her eat. At least she is eating healthy food like evangers. Do the blood work for the thyroid and you will know.

My kitty did the blood work last week because she is skinny and begs for food but turned out she is fine.

If that was my cat I would get checked and after that do whatever holistic option you like.. The pet store people are not vets.Today a lady at the pet store gave me dogs food when I told her I am looking for venison !! She was like" ok, it's the same no?" *facepalm*
