Is there no emergency vet?  I'm afraid there isn't a lot we can do to help.  This could be anything from poisoning to a stroke.

We are in a small town. Everything is closed on Sundays. I found her laying on her side kicking front and back legs at nothing. Bracing and eyes wide open. lots of drool. She has meowed and hissed a few times.

She is about 10 years old. Tiny. Bony with a bubble belly.

Many small town vets have an emergency line, or will direct you to one.

Is this your cat?  She's bony with a bubble belly?

There really isn't anyone online can do without a lot more specific information. At the very least you need to call an emergency vet, who will probably tell you that they'd need to see her to find out what's happening.

Call the nearest emergency vet. Someone has to be open somewhere. If the one you know of is far away, ask them if they have connections with other offices that are open right now. Many offices have a list of other vets if they need to refer away, or can find a list for you in an emergency. Do you have a means of transportation? In the meantime, try to keep her contained to a small area where she can't kick or bump anything and injure herself if she's disoriented.

I think it's almost the end right now. I'm certain that the vet would want me to euthanize her at this point. This has been very sudden. She is opening her mouth like she wants to gag. The black part of her eye is just a slit now.

I'm very sorry.  I guess all you can do is be with her and talk to her.

I did call the vet. He said to just hold her in a blanket. That's what I did and she passed quietly in my arms.

I am so sorry.  You were holding her and she was at home both of which were blessings for her.

Feel so sorry that it did indeed "end badly" as the vet suggested it may. Something was seriously wrong with sweet Ripple with such a high white cell count.

Even though it may have been heartbreaking to you, the fact that you were there, at home, in a familiar environment and holding her through transition was a blessing for her, a final act of love. And because they live in the moment, she transitioned knowing you loved her. Few gifts can we give to our charges that better than that.

I know platitudes won't help you get through the grief. I simply send my condolences.

I'm so sorry you had to find her In such a sad state, but hopefully while holder her you both got to say good bye.
I know all the sympathy doesn't help (lost our family cat of 17yrs a couple years ago) but know that we all feel your pain and hope your broken heart can find some peace soon

Angela, all of the TCS team would like you to know that we are so very sorry for your loss.  It is a blessing that Ripple passed away at home and in the arms of someone she loved so much.

Threads are locked after someone has suffered such a loss, as a sign of respect. We invite you to place a tribute at http://www.thecatsite.com/f/19/crossing-the-bridge as an enduring testimony to your friend.

  RIP Sweet Ripple
