I love (or at least hold in high regard) all animals. I grew up with and around cats and dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, ferrets, horses, lizards, snakes, and birds. But cats and I just GET each other, ya know? I guess I'm a "cat person." I have adopted 2 cats in my adult life. I won't get into my story of loss and rescue (you can read that elsewhere on this site) but I raised Felix from 8 weeks of age until 7 years (when he passed from congestive heart failure) and I rescued Friedrich about 2.5 months ago and he's about 6.5 months old now.

I am SO TIRED of people (my family mostly) making fun of how overprotective (neurotic?) I am about my Friedrich's health and safety. I hear that ridiculous "crazy cat lady" moniker far too often from them, simply because: I research cat nutrition and care, I'm picky about how people treat/talk to/interact with my cat, I feed him natural, healthy food at meal times. They treat me like I'm crazy for caring about my cat's nutritional, psychological, and emotional needs! They really have the "it's JUST a CAT" attitude. Most of them are dog owners, which is great because I also love dogs; you'd think they would understand but they really seem to believe dogs to be superior companions.

I'm just so thankful for this site for reminding me that I'm not alone, and that I'm not crazy for wanting all the best out of life for my cat! Does anyone have similar experiences? Does anyone else hate the "crazy cat lady" stereotype?

Yes I hate that "crazy cat lady" talk!!!
I have always loved animals but I identify with felines!
I've noticed that feline lovers are more compassionate
and sensitive! I can look into a cat's eyes and truly see their soul!!
I hate how people mock cat lovers!!!

I wear the title proudly.  Actually, they compliment me often about how well my cats are taken care of.  The dog owners that pass me off as bizarre because I like cats?  I don't put a lot of stock into what they think.

l dislike that it excludes men.

By default l call guys "guys". Part of my definition of a man is someone who loves cats/animals.

Real men like cats, so the crazy cat lady title excludes these men who are interested enough to rescue/research/care for and nurture their pets.

Yeah, we're all crazy anyway.

Crazy is a pretty relative term. I personally don't mind it in this context - seems the people who use names like "crazy cat lady/guy" are the people who could, but choose not to be as researched or devoted to whatever topic it is. Everyone is crazy about something, but I think being a crazy animal person (not like, a hoarder or anything like on Simpsons) lets us give our animals more, and so we and our animals get to enjoy more enriched lives. If everyone could be crazy animal people, chances are there would be fewer neglected, sick, homeless animals... and then the select few wouldn't be "crazy" anymore.

I love this, we are all crazy! I can't understand ANYONE not loving animals so I completely agree that a real man loves animals. I especially love a man who loves cats.

I agree about the term "crazy." It has such negative connotations. I believe "passionate" better describes how I (and all of us on this site) feel about cats. And I think this world would be much lovlier if more people were passionate about animals!

I consider myself a crazy cat lady, I have it tagged on my laptop. Crazy to me and most means: loving, caring, devoted, generous, sharing and happy person. If you can open your heart to an animal, who is all of the above as well, your a well rounded human. I have no children but I do have 6 cats. When I sign my name to a card it's always has my name, my significant others name and all of my 6 cats names. They are my children, so if that makes me crazy, so be it. Every one of my cats, present, past and future have had or will always have regular names: Samantha Black, Casper Black, Archie Black, and Frankie are from the past; then our current are Virgil, Ryan, Sally Black, Sophie Black, Rachael White and Matthew. So please call me crazy, I don't mind because if you never felt unconditional love, warmth and contentment you've never owned a cat. They aren't pets, their part of the family. They don't work for a living, their job is to be there when I need to cry in fur, need to fall asleep at night, sit or lay in such a way I well warm all over. There job is the greet me every night at the front door, rub their body up and down my legs and seek me out when they are ill or something's not right. If only children could give us this unconditional love, each family would have dozens of kids. So call me the crazy cat lady because I'm one happy and content lady.
Signed, mother of Virgil, Ryan, Matthew, Rachael, Sally and Sophie too!!!

My happy place.
I get called crazy cat lady all the time. My daughter even brought me a mug which said " crazy cat lady" on the front and "I decorate with cats" on the back.:lol3: Anyone who knows me knows how crazy in love I (and my hubby) are about our cats. I know somebody who puts clothes on her dog?? That's crazy to me!

I describe myself as a "crazy cat guy"  People are always trying to get me to take a cat/kitten that they have been feeding, and I have to tell them that before I can do that, the cat has to be tested for all common diseases, de-parasited and spayed/neutered. Nobody has taken me up on that, as it would cost them about $300. I hate to not take some of them, but it wouldn't be fair to the ladies I already have.

My sister hates cats, so she calls me a crazy cat lady and thinks I am a hoarder because I have two cats.   Most people I am friends with are cat people.  I am fine with being a crazy cat lady.  My girls are my babies.

If you are a hoarder with two cats (congrats BTW) what would think of my MIL, who was a true hoarder, with 68 cats?

Since I have 5 and am male, what would your sister call me. The ladies are my babies, my friends, my comforters, and keep me on an even keel. Anybody that tries to mess with them is in for some serious hurt, and then I will get ahold of them.

It's a badge you should wear with pride and honor and love. It's that simple.

We have six cats in the house. They're our furry kids.

There's an old saying (I don't where it came from originally, but I have it on a plaque in my office):

"People who hate cats will come back as mice in their next life"

It is an unattributed quote. I have a site marked with most of the cat quotes I use in my signature.
