Kitty is about 16 months old, and hasn't been fixed. She managed to run out the door last night without us knowing, and we didn't notice until this morning. She got out around 10pm last night, and we found her around 1pm today. I feel awful about it. What are the odds of her being pregnant?

Pretty good!!!
Take her to the vet and get her spayed!!!
Please we have too many felines. Thousands are being euthanized everyday!!
I'm glad you found her! Good luck

I agree that it is VERY likely that she mated while out. Unless you want kittens, and the responsibility that comes with them, best to make her an appt to be spayed this coming week.

I had an appointment to get her fixed last wednesday, but she was in heat so i rescheduled it. The vet said it complicates the procedure a little. I'm kicking myself now, obviously. :doh3:
I'm fine with her having kittens if she's already pregnant, and I can handle the extra responsibility until I can find them homes. I just don't know how to tell if she's pregnant or not..

Please, take her to the vet and spay her ASAP.

If you want to have kittens, you can always cooperate with some rescue group or a shelter nearby.  They will be more than overjoyed with someone who helps them out.

There are lotsa of cat mothers in need.

Knowing that your cat was in heat and that she was outside, unsupervised for 15 hrs, you just have to assume that she IS pregnant. There is no pregnancy test for her to take.

I also highly encourage you to get her spayed.

There are so many unwanted cats/kittens, especially this time of year. There is always the possibility that you will be unable to find homes for Kitty's kittens. Are you able to financially afford 1-9 more cats? A typical litter is 3-6, but we (rescue) have had a few litters of 8-9.

I plan to get her spayed asap. I can afford to keep her kittens, but I'd rather not keep them all. I have a few friends that already laid claims to kittens if there are any. So even if there are 8 or 9 Id only have to keep 3 or so if no one else wants them. I'm really hoping she isn't pregnant, but if she is I plan to wait until the babies are born.
I already know im in the wrong for not having her spayed already, but the boyfriend was afraid the surgery would alter her personality. We had JUST decided to go through with it when she got out...
Also, I'm gonna get her another appointment to see if she is pregnant within the next few weeks.

So other than getting her spayed, what other steps do i need to take?

There isn't a pregnancy test for cats. The only way you'll know that she is not pregnant is if she goes into another heat cycle in a few weeks, but then your vet will tell you to wait as this complicates the procedure and you'll have to the risk of her getting out and getting pregnant again.

Please, take her in to be spayed as soon as possible.

If you want more kittens there are shelters full of them and so many of them end up being euthanised. I know it's horrible to think of spaying your cat if she is already pregnant, but at this early stage it will be a very simple procedure and you'll have the chance to save a living kitten from a shelter.

I'm going to say this from experience!!! My husband's cat had kittens, before we met. All his friends, who wanted a kitten, let him down. Ya they took the cute little kitten but not forever. To his dismay all of them had bad outcomes and these were from friends he grew up with. He trusted all of them to give them a forever home. I'm sorry but it's selfish to bring kittens into a world where they euthanize thousands everyday!!

Also it does change their personality, when spayed or neutered, for the better.
A cat not fixed is in constant torment from not mating. That's all they think about, is mating. After they're fixed, they become even MORE loving because they are no longer in pain from not mating.

My vet says that it's better to let a female cat get pregnant and spay her a week later than to spay her in heat :/. Not sure if I would be comfortable doing it on purpose though. But it is safe and humane to do it right now before the eggs implant. It's true that many people who say they'll take a kitten suddenly change their minds after the babies come.

If anything alters their personalities, it's hormones and pregnancy.
