I have a 7-year old cat who recently got his ear flushed because of an ear infection.  He has not been eating his favorite dry food very well since then.  He would chew it but the crumbs would just fall out of his mouth.  I am sure it was hurting to chew.  The next day, I decided to try some wet food (Fancy Feast beef flavor_ to see if that would help and it did a little.  I just had to break up the chunks, but I was glad to see him eating something.  I didn't give him the entire can and would give him a spoonful at a time.

5 days later - he is still not able to eat his dry food, but he appears to be eating all of his wet food (still spoonful sizes).

I am wondering if anyone went through this with their cat?  I just decided to post this just in case others are searching for the same topic.

Up the canned food serving and switch him to that, if that's what he wants to eat.  It's healthier for him anyway.  In the meantime, he needs to get back to the vet to see if his teeth are okay.

Stick with the wet food. Fancy Feast Classics are good to start with, being grain-free and low-carb.

My concern is that the ear infection is radiating pain down into his jaw causing him discomfort when he chews something hard, which if true may suggest that the infection is still present and needs to be further looked at.

Thank you, all, for your responses! He has a follow-up appt to make sure ear infection is gone and then will check his teeth.

I am definitely going to stick with the canned food.

I agree with @StephenQ. I  have a middle ear problem. When it flares, the nerves in my teeth on that side act up. When my back teeth act up, I get pain in my ear. Ears and teeth are closely connected.
