You are right - I thought the Fel-o-vax lv-k was the FIV and FeLV vaccination in 1, but I was wrong. I will get her the supplements you recommended. Do you have any thoughts on the LTCI therapy?

Yes it sounds like that your cat is being affected by arthritis. Mostly an old cats are at a higher risk of developing this painful disease. This disease can make your cats life miserable due to joint pains and can cause  permanent immobility in your cat. You can use a homeopathic joint pain relief known as pet bounce direct that is very beneficial in treating joint pains due to arthritis. It does not have any side effects, I came to know about it from my friend whose dog is suffering from arthritis. When I researched about it then I found that it can also be used for cats. So you can give it a try as it does not have any side effects.

Thanks Joseph - I will ask my vet if she believes it to be arthritic too. However, her swelling/ pain etc. only subsided with antibiotics - not with prescription NSAID pain relievers (used to treat arthritis) which makes me think it was more of a localized infection.

It could be some sort of bone infection. A deep one that the antibiotics cannot clear. It would be interesting to see a CBC to see if the WBC is elevated. If you can afford it I would get your cat to an orthopedic specialist for an evaluation. If not I would see if your vet can bring the radiographs with her to the next radiology rounds for an evaluation. If that isn't an option I would ask if she could write into VIP the veterinary information network for any suggestions or ideas.

I will definitely look into it - she has her follow-up appointment tomorrow so I will ask her vet about her thoughts on a bone infection - and I want copies of both of the radiographs for sure.

So what did a vet told you Kellio? Is your cat all right? Diagnosing a real cause behind her  this kind of behavior is very necessary to help her in getting relief from the pain and suffering. It can also cause permanent immobility if not treated on time. You can give a pet bounce a try after consulting a vet.

So the vet said that he does not believe it to be a bone disease or arthritic based on her x-rays and the recurrence of the problem being 10 months apart. He also said the swelling I felt was between her arterial bone and another bone in her leg- and it was not painful to touch. If it were a bone disease he said it would be more prevalent and since the antibiotics helped her both times, arthritis is not the culprit either. He thinks that since she is immune compromised it has to do with that- although he does agree that having the same problem in the same leg is a bit odd. We are keeping our eye on it for now- and if anything else happens in it we will do more extensive testing. As of now Sammy is happy and 100% improved from where she was!

I do not believe that she has been tested for Lyme. I can call the vet and see what his thoughts are. We have another follow-up appointment in 2 weeks. Since she is FIV+ I thought her symptoms may be solely related to it, but I can't rule out bone infection/ disease or Lyme disease, which makes me sad :(. I just want her to be happy and healthy because she is such an amazing cat with a personality like none-other. I would do anything to help her at this point- but since I was laid off my finances are restricted which worries me even more.

My only other thought would be for me to raise money somehow- to do all of these tests etc. She deserves it!

It is good that your cat has given negative results for arthritis. But I wanted to tell you that arthritis is not only found in middle aged or old aged pet, but some times young ones can also be affected. Young one is affected only if one of his parents were affected by it, as it could be hereditary. You should also do some research on the harmful side effects of using NSAID pain relievers over a longer period of time.
