So far out in left field I got lost
I know that to leash train a cat you have to be very patient and loving to them and that you need to start them on this at an early age.

Is it possiable to train an older kitty to walk on the leash? Sammycat and Oscar wants to go outside so bad. There have been a couple of times when Sammycat got out the door but was terrified of the grass he just didn't like the feel of the grass on his paws I guess. I do take the boys outside once in a while but only if I hold them in my arms and walk around the yard with them.

I have thought about building a cat run for them. That way I wouldn't have to worry about them getting off of the leash but with Sammycat's fear of the grass would this be a good idea? Will he get used to feeling the grass under his feet? I know these are some silly questions but am curious and don't want to cause him undue stress.

Sammycat is a little over 2 years old and Oscar is still a young cat at about 8 months old. Any suggestions?

My Gus was 2 when I started him on a leash, before that he was the poster child for Alley Cats. It took a lot of patience but I finally got him leash trained, he'll even walk (on his terms) around the house. The best way to do it is get a harness, not a collar and just start putting it on inside the house. It's pretty funny at first, they act like you've put a 10 lb weight on their back. Once that's a normal thing, add the leash and try letting the cat move around on his own terms. Good luck

It is entirely possible to teach an older cat to accept a harness and leash. If you do a search on the board for harness and leash training and ask the search engine to pull up older posts, there are a lot of old threads about this.
