Hello. I am new to this site so I hope I'm posting in the right place! I've had my kitten for 29 days, he is 31 days old as of today. He's been to the vet twice for check ups and the vet said he's doing great. He was started off on KMR and then switched over to KMR 2nd stage, and has been on 2nd stage for 11 days. The past few days have been a struggle getting him to calm down enough to drink from his bottle. His fussing along with his constant chewing on my hands and fingers with those sharp little teeth seemed like it was time to try something else. Today I put two spoon fulls of blue buffalo wilderness kitten canned food on a paper plate, and gave it a squirt of his formula. He surprisingly jumped right in and chowed down almost immediately. When he seemed done with the canned food concoction I offered him his bottle. He was completely uninterested in it. He had been on a schedule of eating every 3 hours, consuming approximately 2tbsp of formula each feeding. My question now is, because I skipped the whole thickening up the 2nd stage to a cereal consistency and went straight to mixing it into canned food, is he getting enough nutrients? How long do I continue to add formula to his canned food? How often should I be feeding him now? Also, we have been helping him eliminate over a litter box so that he gets the idea. At 31days, he appears to make the efforts all on his own but still requires assistance. Since this is the very first time we have ever raised a kitten from almost birth, advice from others is greatly appreciated. Trying to find this information on the Internet is next to impossible with every other site contradicting the last. Am I doing this right?

My goodness! What an adorable baby you have!

It sounds to me that you are on the right track! This site gives an idea of how to transition them, although it doesn't say how often to feed them. http://www.petmd.com/cat/centers/kitten/nutrition/evr_ct_weaning_kittens_what_to_feed_a_kitten

I think that since you are starting solid food, he won't need to be fed every 3 hours as the solid food will stay in his stomach longer then formula would. I am sure he will let you know when he is feeling hungry!
