I adopted two new kittens (8 weeks old) a week ago.  Just got them straightened out with diarrhea and now found that one of them is peeing outside the litter box.  I saw the female kitten do this on some plastic on my bed, then she peed on my down quilt.  Took her to the vet and the lab report showed white cells in her urine.  My vet did not want to prescribe antibiotics due to the age of the kitten, but asked me first to separate them and see if she goes outside the box being separated to wean out the potential this is behavioral and needs to be retrained using the litter box.  After suffering thru two long days of hearing both kittens crying for each other, I finally relented and am giving them play time for now.

Here is an outline of the issues:

1.  She did use her litterbox last night but found that she also used the bathtub.

2.  If this is behavioral and marking issues, would this occur at 8 weeks old, she only weights 1lb 5 ounces?

3.  I see her using the litterbox now.

4.  With the presence of white cells in her urine, I do not know what the reluctance of my vet is in giving antibiotics.

Your input will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I saw your thread, the same as this one, in behavior so answered it there. Basically saying that this IS a medical problem and not a behavioral/marking issue. The kitten has a elevated WBC in the urine so I would try to find a vet who will prescribe antibiotics. 8 week old kittens can receive medications if necessary. Poor little one and so sorry you are going through this. Such a worry but I think you can get this all sorted out for your kitten. I would keep them together so they don't get stressed out which will make their immune systems weakened. If you adopted them from a shelter, call. Some shelters have vets on staff OR a list of vets that work with the shelter and sick kittens. I hope you can get your kitten some antibiotics! :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes: for the little one.
