So.. I need new blinds.  This is what Sophie has done to the soft, pliable aluminum ones I have.

When she has her crazy moments, she crashes into them headfirst.  It sounds painful, but somehow she enjoys it.

What kind of blinds should I get to avoid this ugliness?

I have a few limitations:

- I'm on the ground floor of a condo building, and I love light.  So I prefer horizontal blinds, so I can have light but still maintain privacy.

- This is in my bedroom, so there is no real option to open them up a foot for her.  I feel exposed.

- I don't want wooden blinds, because I don't think she'll stop her crazy moods, so I'm afraid she'll really hurt herself if it's a rigid blind.

Would fabric be a good option? I've had difficulties finding fabric horizontal blinds.  Any other ideas?

We have wooden blinds in the bedroom and.....they pretty much look like yours. Wood isn't the answer, that's for sure.

I am hesitant to say much about vertical blinds. We had them on our sliding glass door in the kitchen when the cats were small and BooBoo got his neck caught in the little links at the bottom. Had we not been home, he probably would have choked and could have died. As it was, I had to cut the links to free him. Cats can get into everything. So no vertical blinds here anyway (I know you said you didn't really want them, but thought I'd mention a possible danger with them anyway).

I don't know what to suggest. I'd probably go with regular Roman shades or something like that. You can keep them up (and away from Sophie during the day) and then pull them down at night. Just don't get them with a pull.....I have a feeling Sophie would love a pull!

Good luck with whatever you decide.

What about adding one of those window films to cover your window? You'd sacrifice visibility but still have light and privacy. At night you could pull down the blinds to make it darker (if you keep those blinds).

My downstairs neighbour did this and it worked great for him and looked good too.

I have curtains which I'm lucky the cats have never attempted to climb. It's definitely not unheard of for a cat to climb curtains though! It's kind of tough coming up with window covering options when you have a pesky cat! :lol3:

Thanks for all your ideas!  It is such a pain.  Unfortunately, my strata association gives me some restrictions too, so I'll have to look into some of them.  :)

I'm sorry, but I literally LOL'd at the picture!  Ugh, my cats have done similar damage.  Let us know if you find a solution, I might try it.
